Triple Threat Priming

Say hello to ‘Beauty Hacks’ week here on VDM. Seven days crammed with posts and videos filled to the brim with makeup shortcuts, products that make our regimes that little bit more streamlined and tips that will have you nodding along and thinking ‘genius’. Ok, maybe not the last one…

I’m not one to complicate the process of makeup application. I’m a ‘slap it on, pray for the best and don’t look in mirrors for the rest of the day’ kinda girl. You know the ones who carry around a tote load of makeup for ‘touch-ups’ that never ever happen? Yeah that’s me. So the idea of applying a sole primer in the morning, let alone a total of three, seems like a bit of ball-ache. But I’m here today to tell you it’s worth the hassle. For a rouge cheek reduced, pore smoothed, dewy look there’s only one – sorry three – ways to go about it. Yep I’m talking ‘Triple Threat Priming’…

The Redness Reducing OneClinique Superprimer Colour Corrects Redness. One of the many attractive qualities I’ve inherited from my Dad aside from my monobrow and never stalling body hair growth is an always ruddy complexion. The main reason why most days blush gets shafted. Not being one for full-coverage foundations means that a redness reducing primer is my only option and though I have yet to find one that completely rids my cheeks of the problem (recommendations welcomed in the comments below), Clinique’s yellow-tinted offering does a pretty good job at turning the flush down a few notches.

The Pore Proofing OneMaybelline Baby Skin. Thanks to my macro lens and camera function it’s only of late that I’ve realised that neighboured next to my nose are two areas of extreme visible poreness. Now we all have ’em, there’s no way of getting around that, but some kind of silicone based primer formula will help to fill them up temporarily and make for a smoother solution meaning that foundation doesn’t immediately sink into those pesky little facial plug holes. A teenie tiny dab of the Maybelline seems to do the trick.

The Glow Giving OneDior Glow Maximizer Light Boosting Primer Instant Pore Eraser. Ah, the one that brings the whole thing back to a slightly sheeny skin-like finish – or the ‘I woke up like this’ glow as I like to call it. Light lending products always shy away from gals on the greasier side of things, but I propose this as a dewy-fier for all. After whacking on the previous duo, I like to use the Dior on the last sans primer areas of skin still standing – the cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin. Just a half pump you know, nothing crazy, but it halts the whole thing from looking too primer-ed up and negates the need for highlighter later on.

Let’s face it a three-primer prep routine isn’t something that’s practical for every day incorporation – ain’t nobody got time for that – but on days when you’ve got a few extra minutes to faff, then getting mixing. A posse of primers it’s where it’s really at.
