The Weekend Post #56: And So To Bed…

Sleeping is easily up in there in my top five activities. Nothing beats cosying up under the covers after a long day, thermals on, Ryan Gosling film rolling – a little snapshot of my nightly routine there for you. I love a little ritual and my bedtime beauty formula is no exception; there are sprays, soaks and smoothers that all make an appearance before I snuggle up. Lately I’ve become a little consumed with the This Works Deep range, after giving a few items a go which resulted in some successful snooze-heavy sleeps I took the plunge and purchased the This Works Night Owl set which made an appearance in my most recent Haul Video. I promised a follow-up so this weekend I thought I’d share my thoughts on the newest additions to my Deep Sleep line-up…

The cult product from the range is the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray which also made its way into my Mum’s stack of presents on Christmas Day. It’s a herbaly scented spritz – think Liz Earle products mixed with a little Aromatherapy Associates and you’re on the right track – that when sprayed onto your pillow each night helps you drop off that little bit quicker. Quick tip – spray from a distance to avoid a soggy pillow. Next up is the Deep Sleep Bath Soak. Now I’ve spoken up of my love for bath salts and soaks before so I knew this one was going to be a winner. My only grumble is that you don’t get a lot in a pot, 10 baths at best and I like this to be a nightly routine so I’m rationing it out for ‘special occasions’ – aka ‘Ryan Gosling’ nights. Fellow candle lovers rejoice for there’s a new burning beauty to add to your wishlist, the Deep Sleep Heavenly Candle, an earthy lavender based scent that burns happily on my bedside.

Of course the question of whether they do actually aid deep sleep is the clincher and it’s a bit of a difficult one to judge. My thoughts are that’s it’s a bit of a placebo effect mixed with some clever aromatherapy. I tend to have a better nights sleep when I indulge in my ritual but whether that’s all in my head or down to the products it’s a toughie to detangle. One thing I can vouch for is I definitely feel more relaxed after using all the Deep Sleep products I own in conjunction. At least once a week I like to bathe by candlelight, turn off technology and have a mini bathing break. It won’t surprise me if one day I’m found asleep in there.

Out of all the oils, lotions, soaks, balms, candles and sprays that I’ve tried (the line is pretty extensive), my favourite product of them all has to be the Deep Sleep Stress Less rollerball, which I’m already on my on my second offering of. It’s one those ‘does-it-all-and-more’ products that I whip into my bag on travels. You can shake this lavender and peppermint concoction into the bath, apply on pressure points to soothe a sore head or roller onto a pillow for a more souped-up sleeping measure. Gawd, even just writing this post is making my eyes I little heavy…

I wondered about the psychosomatic effect of aromatherapy too. I use lavender essential oil on my pillow in the purest form, and whilst the scent does clearly relax you I do wonder if I manage to sleep better because I expect to, and as you say it is a placebo effect! But even if it is, hey, you’re getting a good night’s sleep, so something must be worth it!

    • That’s the way I look at it too – I’m not one to question a good night’s sleep ;)

  • Thank you for this great post!

    • No worries! :)

  • ChantelleMakeup

    Lovely post! x

    • Thank you :)

These look amazing! I definitely want to try the pillow spray.

    • It’s fab! :)

  • meganelizabethmackie

Yay! I really do love the ThisWorks sleep range, but I definitely agree on the placebo thing, if I’m too stressed it’s probably not going to knock me out, but it definitely might help me relax a little! xx

    • Very true :)

  • Line Juul Noergaard

interesting, I’d like to try it but I feel like spraying something on my pillow is a bit eccentric and also I have the fear that it’s going to make my skin break out 🙂 x

    • Ah yes I do worry about that too – but I haven’t had any sporadic breakouts just yet (touches wood!) :)

  • Gita Bončina

I always love your shots – they’re so clean and pretty, makes me wanna buy all those products just to take captures of them ;).

    • Haha thank you hun! :)

In the midst of an awful nights sleep, in which I was awake until 6 this morning, I actually ordered samples of the roller ball and the pillow spray. It’s so nice to hear they work for you, hopefully they will  work for me too.

    • Ah amazing – hope they work out for you ok, keep me updated :)

I use the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray and I find that it helps relax me which helps me go to sleep. I don’t think this is a miracle cure for sleeplessness but if you’re like me and can’t relax enough to go to sleep sometimes, this does help!

    • Yep, I feel the same way about it! :)

  • sarirah

I think I’m going to go for the Stress Less rollerball because ultimately, that’s what my problem is. Placebo or not, if it does the trick then I’m happy. :D  Thanks for this post. x

    • No worries – glad you liked it :)

  • Millie

These look great!! I always benefit from the extra help of getting to sleep, so these I will definitely have to try!! 🙂 ♥

    • Ah brilliant – let me know how you get on :)

  • Shel D.

I bought the This Works Night Owl set too but why did they include the shimmer balm…

    • Most pointless inclusion ever ;)

  • Hearts&Crosses

Oh your weekend posts always make me want to pamper myself, have a long bath and jump into bed!

    • Well that sounds rather lovely! :)

  • Pippa Jones

This looks like a relaxing way to put yourself to sleep that i need to try.
    Bet it smells amazing

    • It smells INCREDIBLE! :)

  • Lou S

I love the photo, and I definitely have to try this Deep Sleep Pillow Spray!

    • Let me know how you get on! :)

  • Sounds good. Need to try this.

  • I have the pillow spray and roller ball after seeing them on spray, and love them, though I was also thinking there may be a lot of placebo thrown in for good measure, I think I’d still repurchase though

    • Ah I’m never one to argue with a good night’s sleep either and if it helps then it’s a definite repurchase :)

  • Freya Jenna

I cannot vouch for the pillow spray and sleep balm more. They genuinely work, although this could all be placebo effect but if I get a good snooze because of it I don’t really care

    • Wahey! :)

  • Procrast1nato2

This feels like an amazing V-Day gift, will definitely look into it!  I love the idea of pillow sprays but have never indulged in one.

    • Ah such a good idea for a V-day gift! :)
