The Weekend Post #48: The New Masks

My ‘Weekend Posts’ can sometimes appear like a dumping ground for skincare saviours, but I’m ok with that. I haven’t added any new masks into the mix for a while – I’ve been stuck on the same detoxifying, radiance-boosting and hydrating routine from Aesop, REN and Origins (video here) for months, so it was about time a skincare-nut like myself branched out again. And over the past few weeks I’ve found two newbies that are injecting a bit of much needed ‘zing’ into my skin…

Both are heavily AHA-based; containing natural fruit acids which gently unbind cells in the top layer of skin to activate renewal. Sounds terrifying, but actually just means you just need to factor in 10 minutes for inspecting your complexion after application thinking how bloody fantastic it looks. First up the Nude Miracle Exfoliating Mask*, which I’ve been hearing quite a buzz about recently. AHA’s aside, it’s also formulated with rice beads – double exfoliation time! You’re supposed to massage the mask into your face for one minute, then leave it on the skin for a further five before removing. I was sceptical as I haven’t indulged in manual exfoliation for a long while – but it seems like a gentle slough has done my skin some good. A little goes a long with this suff and you don’t need to go too crazy with the massaging – gently does it. The other mask that’s weadled it’s way into my stocks is the Oskia Renaissance Mask, which truly smells good enough to eat, let alone slather on your face. This is more of a traditional gel-like consistency that you apply for 10-20 minutes then massage with some water on your face to activate it’s second phase as a milk-like texture, leave on a while longer then remove. I’ve found this to be particularly effective at aiding the zapping away the odd blackhead I had appearing round my nozzle, thumbs up. Although it does leave my face a wee bit red – one to throw on before bed to avoid a red-faced day.

If you’ve already got the REN Glycolatic Radiance Renewal Mask or Alpha H Liquid Smoothing and Perfecting Mask present in your stash then these definitely do not need to be added to a high-priority shopping list anytime soon, but if you’re on the lookout for some AHA sandblasted-skin goodness then it might be worth going a little wild on payday. Anyway it goes without saying, you know what I’ll be doing this afternoon. The only question remains – which one to choose?
