The Rusty-Looking, Red Toned Shadow Base That’s A Bargain

Untitled-1

I’ve said before that the Maybelline Colour Tattoo by EyeStudio 24hr Gel-Cream Eyeshadows are some of the best cream eyeshadows full stop – let alone on the highstreet. On and On Bronze is one of my favourite bronze eyeshadows and the formula is just spot on; creamy and sheeny, with a bit of blend time before it sets to a powder-like finish that doesn’t budge. They provide a great long-lasting base for whatever you pop on the top, or work just as well on their own smudged out into the crease or paired with a transition shade. A great multi-tasker to have in your collection and they’re just £4.99. £4.99? Bargain.

I’ve tried a few shades and of course the more neutral in the pack are my favourites – Pink Gold is good everyday colour, especially in the warmer months – but recently it’s one of the more bolder options that’s been tickling my fancy. It’s called Metallic Pomegranate and actually it’s a shade name that’s pretty apt. It’s got the ruby redness of the fruit in there but mixed with a golden sheen and a rusty-copper tone. It might not look like the most wearable shade in the world, but after watching an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race a few weeks back I was feeling brave with my makeup, threw this on the lid and fell in love. On that particular day I paired it with every single red-toned eyeshadow that I owned – quite literally, I think I had about 10 colours on each lid – but I think my preferred method is to use it on its own. The depth of colour means that you don’t end up looking like you’re harbouring a case of the pink eye and the shimmer is nothing to be put off by and actually just adds a sheen to the finish. It’s all surprisingly wearable.

So what’s the lesson to learn here? Watch RuPaul’s Drag Race more often and to not be a wuss when it comes to donning colour on the lids. You might just surprise yourself…

P.S) Fellow RuPaul lovers, you may wish to check out Miss Fame’s YouTube channel which features some of her tutorials and they are just ah-mazing.
