The Press-On Lip Colours

I love a good bold lip. I also love ‘easy to apply, no touch-ups required, don’t need to look in a mirror till the end of the day’ makeup. Herein lies the problem. The two don’t classically mesh together in the most cohesive way. However I’ve found a shortcut around it and it involves minimal effort, technique or product (classic Anna, eh?). When it comes to day-proofing a bold lip the key is in a press-on, smoosh-in application. Dab your lip colour on directly from the bullet and then use your fingertip to blend it in, soften the edges and create a stain on your lips that stays put. The layer is so thin that it won’t transfer onto your teeth, nor look overly obvious. It’s the no makeup, makeup way to rock your favourite colours and I’ve got a few of them up my sleeve that I like to crack out for this purpose. The key here is in the texture. You don’t want anything too creamy, nor overly matte – just something in the middle…

Let’s talk berries first. MAC Lipstick in Rebel is a classic (it’s pictured above on my lips). Drawn onto the lips with some force you get a deep purple pout that wouldn’t look out place in a Twilight film, but when it’s softly swiped a plum wash is left behind that looks more raspberry than anything else. Ta-da – it’s wearable. If I’m in the mood still for a berry, but with something a bit more pinky then out comes Clinique’s Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Peony. Worked in it gives of a tint of dusky rose with an undertone of reddy fuchsia that looks so subtle on your lips that you could totally trick people into thinking that you woke up like ‘dis.

Then of course there are the reds. Now I could reel off a double digit amount here but I’m going to whittle it down to just the one as it’s the colour that got the wheels rolling with this whole ‘press-on’ thing in the first place. It’s L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Lipstick in Julianne’s Pure Red (you’ll see it in action in Sunday’s video) and man does this stuff stain. It does not budge and paints the lips with an everyday-friendly pop of red that you don’t need to tend to till the PM.

Lob away the lip brush, press-on and go. Easy peasy.
