The Perfect Blend: Shopping My Stash & Saving Money

IMG_0943

I’ve really been into my base recently. A couple of weeks ago I got my brows threaded at Blink (head to the counter in Liberty which is so quiet because no-one knows that it’s there and there’s never a wait!) and my lashes lifted at Jamie Louise Beauty; the combination of which made me feel human again and negated any real need for brow or lash attention. Sure a bit of mascara and brow gel hasn’t gone a miss, but pop a dollop of gloss or a matte lipstick on the lips and all there is really left to do is base.

There are a few foundations that have been floating my boat recently; namely Estée Lauder Doublewear Light, and I’ve been trialling the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint that I’ll feedback on later this week, but I fancied something with a bit more ‘dew‘ that I could whip out on days when my skin resembled the texture of a cat’s tongue (yes I know what a cat’s tongue feels like because my mate had a cat when we were younger that loved to lick my arm – nice). Something with a tinted moisturiser-esque glowy finish, but with the longevity of a foundation. Now I’m not sure what caused me to try this one morning, but I squirted out a pump of the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter onto a ZOEVA 140 Buffer Brush and then did the same with the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Fair and the results were all kinds of amazing…

It was exactly what I wanted. I’ve always been a fan of the It Cosmetics CC Cream because of its high dose of coverage without ever looking or feeling full-on and cakey. However, with a dollop of the BECCA Primer it becomes even more dewy and skin-like than normal. My skin looked healthy, any red patches were gone, I didn’t even need to bother with concealer and I’ve saved myself the dollar and hassle of heading down to Space NK to pick up something new.

So the moral of the story is: shop your stash, save yourself some money and you might just find the perfect base blend…
