The Other Best Bits from 2015

IMG_0043

In order to make my 2015 Makeup Favourites video a bit more of a digestible length there were a fair amount of things that had to be cut. I used to film them as a two part makeup/skincare/haircare/bodycare/nails/toosl/and breathe extravaganza, but these days I stick to makeup and throw the rest of my notable mentions into a post like this. So here are the other best bits from 2015…

SKINCARE:

There are three things that have really stood out in the past year (aside from the KYPRIS range, but seeing as that’s more of a recent find I’ve begrudgingly left it out here). I picked up the Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask in New York last New Years and it turned my skin from a pretty dry, grey-looking state into a complexion as smooth as a baby’s behind in a matter of minutes. It’s such great stuff. Something that also makes skin look equally dewy is the Estée Lauder Revitalizing Supreme CC Cream which I used as my final skincare step in the AM during the warmer months and the Estée Lauder EE Even Effect Skintone Corrector in Light which I use in the cooler months. Both add that final protective layer with a good dose of SPF and a hint of tint.

TOOLS:

This is a short and sweet category because I’m pretty loyal when it comes to things like curlers and brushes. However, the Rubis Slanted Tweezers have become my new brow tidy-upper favourite and I feel lost without my Beautyblender. No really. I once forgot it on a weekend away and my makeup sucked until I got home and was reunited with it.

NAILS:

Something I’ve repurchased multiple times throughout the year is the Essie As Good As Gone Clarifying Nail Polish Remover which just is really effective in a pretty gentle way. Then for actually painting my nails, I start things off with the Ciaté Base Balance Nail Toner and use the Ciaté Underwear Base Coat over the top before sandwiching in the colour with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and it’s been working really well. In terms of shades though, you know I’m obsessed with the Smith & Cult Nail Polishes. Shall I go into full-on rave mode again? No? OK, I’ll move on…

MAKEUP:

Of course I covered my makeup favourites from 2015 here, but there were a few things that I feel needed to get a special mention. Shadow-wise I’ve been loving the MAC Pro-Longwear Paint Pot in Groundwork for most of the year and for the second half I really got into the CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre in Mirage. Both are fab shades that you can smudge on with your finger and apply in record speed. Then for lips I really do enjoy the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. They are seriously one of the longest lasting lip colours I’ve tried. EVER. You need industrial strength oil-based makeup remover to get them off and I’m OK with that.
