The Not Pretty, But Really Practical Travel Beauty Bag

Along with foundations, matte red lipsticks and Varley sportswear (seriously somebody stop me, I’m on a patterned leggings rampage), I also have a bit of a thing for makeup bags. Now I’ve clawed back my spending in this department recently because it’s just not necessary for one person to own almost as many beauty bags as they have fingers and toes (yes, really!) and instead I just have the odd makeup bag and toiletry holder that live in my suitcase all raring to go for whenever I’m next on my travels. Makeup-wise I challenge myself to squeeze everything into this Hay Dot Makeup Bag, which I don’t always manage, but it’s good at discouraging overpacking. However I have something a little less sexy for my toiletries…

I’ve dabbled with all sorts of ways of travelling and packing my skincare/body/haircare/general miscellaneous beauty goods over the years. There’s the ‘lob it in’ approach that I always say I’ll unpack around the sink when I get there then never do, or the super organised, departmental roll-out bags which end up looking the size of a small child once I’ve bundled them up (plus they never secure because they’re so stuffed and I resort to keeping everything together with an elastic band). Recently though, I’ve found a solution which isn’t necessarily the sexiest of options, but it’s a bit of a bargain and does the job of being a practical travel beauty bag really darn well. Say hello to the Wenger Wash Bag.

It’s pouch heaven, with two little zip up pockets either side (I find they fit my deodorant in perfectly), then the front zip opens up to reveal the whole of the inside where there’s a hook at the top so you can hang it on the back of a door, then a small enclosed pouch which I keep all my cotton in and tweezers and bits and bobs, underneath there’s a zipped pocket which I store my hair stuff in and the bottom is just open. It’s seriously roomy so you don’t even have to bother with travel-sizes here if you don’t want to and when I’m travelling light, I pack my makeup bag in here too, just to keep everything together. It’s the perfect solution and I think it only cost around £8. Bargain.

Like I said it’s not going to win any awards for looks, but for practicality it’s ace. Right, that’s it. Step away from the beauty bag purchasing Anna. I think you’re sorted here now.

P.S) At the time of writing this, it’s annoyingly out of stock – boo! – however there are a tonne of other options of Amazon.
