The Night of the Bold Lip

There’s a lot of weird makeup goings-on in my world at the moment – it must be that whole ‘changing of the seasons’ thing. But the other night I ventured out the house, and danced the night away in a club wearing a bold lip people. Yes – out the house! In public! I reapplied with delight, knocked back a few Jagerbombs and had the time of my life, all whilst sporting a daring lipstick choice. Perhaps it was the pre-drinks or the fact I was surrounded by my friends who are all red-lip-lovers (safety in numbers and all that) but I just had to document this one for you guys…

I knew the night had a potential of being a little schweaty so I applied the Hourglass Viel Mineral Primer (review here) to areas where my makeup tends to fade first, then I blended in a fair few pumps of YSL’s Teint Touche Éclat in B40*. I initially liked this foundation, but over the past week or two it’s become a bit more of a love, especially when used over a primer – glowy skin perfection. A smidge of Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand on my baggy eyes and then the YSL Touche Éclat in 1* down the bridge of my nose and cheekbones I moved onto some serious contouring with the Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium (review here) – give me some cheekbones baby! For a bit of colour to the face I dusted the Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Brunettes* and Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Peach Whisper over my cheeks. I finished the skin off with a touch of By Terry’s Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder* through my T-Zone (I’m anti-powder but this lightweight, breathable formula just slips through in my makeup bag) and a quick slick of the highlighter from the Hourglass Illume Bronze Light Creme to Powder Bronzer Duo over the tops of what cheekbones I have.

Complex complexion out of the way – the rest of the makeup I kept über simple. After a quick squeeze with the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers I layered on L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara and Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara till my lashes were looking rather large, a quick application of Clinique’s fabuloso Bottom Lash Mascara finished off the eyes. As my lip choice was brash and bold I kept my eyebrows undefined for the most part and just ran the Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Espresso through the keep the unruly pests in place. The lipstick in question was my current favourite Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in 107* – quelle surprise – I think I need two hands to count all the posts and videos that I’ve mentioned this beauty in. Do you get it yet? I bloomin’ love this shade.

So after my raucous night out I think I’ve decided to make bold lip choices a bit of thing. For the moment anyway. So don’t be surprised when the likes of MAC Hue make a comeback, cause we all know they will. But for the mintue I’m on a red lip revolution…
