The Jet-Lag Diaries

I never did that much travelling when I was growing up, so it wasn’t until two years ago that I travelled far enough to finally discover what jet-lag actually felt like. For me it manifests as a strange tingly feeling with the addition of feeling like I’ve drunk way too much/would do a comedy ‘face falls in soup‘ moment because I’m so tired. Luckily, this time round in L.A hasn’t been too bad and last night I stayed up till midnight without feeling absolutely horrendous *pats self on back*. In fact I’m currently writing this post at 11.30pm so please do excuse any diabolical grammatical mistakes and spelling errors, please and thank you. I reckon this lack of feeling like my brain has turned into jelly is down to a few factors, so I thought I’d note them down incase any of you are off on any long distance travels soon; though these can be incorporated for those on shifts or times when you’ve just completely fudged up your sleep schedule too…

NO NAPPING. Does anyone else ever wake up from naps having absolute no idea where they are/what time it is and feel like their face is melting is off? It’s the weird face melty thing that always puts me off naps, but I’m a big believer in trying to get on the time zone of your current whereabouts as soon as possible. Despite a few yawns here and there Lily and I have stayed strong, gone nap-free and we feel all the better for it.

SUPPLEMENT UP. I know that having a vitamin C supplement that’s like a million and one times the recommended daily dosage is a bit of a fail as your body can only take in so much, but I do love topping myself up once a day with some kind of vitamin C/multi-vitamin thang and for me that’s always Emergen-C. Whether it helps directly or it’s a bit of a placebo effect – I have no idea – but I do find that it helps to ward off those air-con induced colds.

BEDTIME ROUTINE. I find bedtime to be the strangest part of the day whenever I’m away. It always makes me miss Mark, want to watch Line of Duty in bed and I even miss his moaning and nudging through the night to stop me snoring. I’ve tried my hardest to get into some kind of routine to aid my sleep and kick off those relaxing vibes so I do a bit of face rollering with my Jade Roller (good for getting rid of that puffy travel face that I also get) and do a few spritzes of the 1001 Remedies Purair Air Purifying Spray.

GOOD QUALITY. Shut those blackout blinds, find the perfect temp on the A.C and pop those ear plugs in so you don’t hear the people who’ve really, really managed to get over their jet lag stumble in and faff around by the lifts at 3am in the morning. In fact ear plugs are so darn effective for me that the other morning my alarm went off for four full minutes before it woke me up. Sorry neighbour! My bad.
