The Eye-wateringly Expensive Eyeliner That’s Really Rather Good

If you’re adverse to ridiculous makeup purchases then click away now….

I’m guessing most of you are still here, because surely that’s why you’re hanging around this corner of the Internet. Well today I reach a new level of ridiculousness, blowing the trumpet of an eyeliner that equates the cost of my weekly food shop. Hello baked bean dinners for a week. But seriously it’s really rather good. I’ve mentioned it before actually, but it wasn’t until I began frequently using the marmite receptioned liner that is Benefit’s They’re Real Push-Up Liner, that Lily told me I needed to re-pick up the Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen in 01 Deeper – and man was she right.

As noted in my previous review of Benefit’s latest release, for eyeliner newbies and noobs like myself it’s perfect due to the shape of the nib combined with the slow-flowing twist-up pigment which allows for control and and a pre-made flick that’s already done for you. However it has its faults, which the main one for me is watching the line slowly transfer to my upper lid throughout the day. The Tom Ford does not suffer the same fate and actually once I’d practised enough times with the Push-Up Liner’s silicone nib the brush one that sits on the top of the Tom Ford one didn’t phase me as much. It was nice to have that flexibility. But the real draw (pah – get it?) of the Tom Ford is that it’s actually two eyeliners in one; with a longer, slightly fatter applicator on one end and a smaller, finer one on the other. I draw the flick with the long side and get to work on the lash hugging line with the other. It’s a technique which I’ll let you in on Sunday’s video. Don’t hold your breath, it’s not rocket science here and hey – it’s me – but it’s one for nervous liner ladies to take note from. Cotton buds and Bioderma at the ready…

The fine tip looks just perfect for someone ever so slightly heavy handed like myself – something for the wishlist :o) Xx

  • That looks so luxurious yet really nice and simple to use- especially if you’re a bit rubbish at eyeliner like myself! xx

  • I love that it has a thin brush because thick lines really don’t suit me – thin as possible which is why I usually use eye shadow. The benefit sounds good but the formula has put me right off. If I had the dolla is be trying this !

  • I hate when eyeliner transfer to my upper lid! That tom ford eyeliner looks promising! and it has 2 brushes, oh my god, it’s a dream come true!

  • Yikes, it does look rather lovely – but I could never justify that much on liner – when it’s on your eye people can’t tell (sadly!) that it’s Tom Ford! But… I guess I wouldn’t say No 😉

  • Ouch I don’t think I could ever spend that much in an eyeliner, because I love my cheap collection one and eyeko skinny liner far too much. But it does look great.

  • Looks great! I’m loving the Eyeko Eye Do at the moment no smudging and a great applicator!

    Madeleine, The Daily Mark

  • Far too expensive my liking lol! Sorry but I’ll stick with my Rimmel Exaggerate – does a good enough job for me!

  • I hated the Benefit liner, a pushy sales assistant didn’t even let me say no to trying it out and when I did it was thick, dry and messy. But as for Tom Ford, I’m saving my first purchase from the line for the time when I can afford a lipstick haha x

  • This sounds amazing! I love the fact that it has two sides. If only I could afford one!#

I have this eyeliner – love it!!

  • Want and need 🙂

Sounds great! Are there any duds in the Tom Ford makeup line??

  • Tuğçe Ertürk

Now really curious about this since i am an eyeliner lover <3

  • Wow that flick looks incredible! x

  • It’s so cool how there’s two different sized tips on the same eyeliner! It’s perfect for creating different looks then 🙂

  • The liner looks incredible, I wish it weren’t so expensive!

  • I’m crippling my bank balance with Tom Ford just lately and this most definitely hasn’t helped things..

    and beauty or something.

  • I always feel I shouldn’t spend anymore money on make up, then I read things like this that changes my mind! Whoops, guess I’m just an eyeliner lover, i really can’t resist!

  • I have been hunting for the ideal liner… might have to give this a go! Although, I wonder if there are any more affordable sisters.

    • If you’ve never tried Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner, I’d suggest you give it a go before you rush to buy this one! I’m horrible at cat flicks using liquid eyeliner, but even I can use it properly.
I don’t think that it’s a dupe in any way, and you’ll miss out on the double tip action, but you’ll pay less than half the price for it.

  • Rachel Polansky

i’ve used this a few times and don’t love it enough to justify the price–i i find the marc jacobs one works amazingly well and is only $30

  • My favourite liquid liner pen of all-time is the Soap & Glory Supercat Eyeliner. Nothing beats it (in my book, anyway). I’d be willing to try the TF one if it was a little less expensive. I love TF to bits but his cosmetics pricing is way out of line.

  • Lucy

I always love your posts 🙂 so glad I found your blog! xxx

  • I would love to try this, but I will never spend that much on an eyeliner!

  • Love the look of this… Waiting to see it in action! xx

  • Madeleine S-B

This looks really very good! But £42, golly… haha x

  • This looks amazing, but that price *sad face*

Sounds incredible but my word that’s expensive!

  • I love the look of winged eyeliner, but I don’t use liquids that often! Products like this make me want to be a liquid liner junkie, but I’m just not!

  • Daniella

    love! need in my life

  • Lisa Adams

This is my favorite and I have tried them all! People talk about the expense but you are getting 2 eyeliner. I love the weight.

  • I get giddy at the thought of ridiculously priced makeup items when other people are showcasing them, but when I think about that money coming out of my account I panic! I think anything Tom Ford is justifiable, it’s the epitome of luxury.

  • Looks amazing, sounds amazing, but hella’ no to that price tag!

  • Looks gorgeous and amazing, but unless it’s got diamond particles in I would never pay that x

  • Yanii Putrii

    looks really amazing!

  • I wish i was good at eyeliner! x

  • Ooh, this sounds handy and luxurious! I’m a huge sucker for Tom Ford, so will definitely have to check this out 🙂

  • Oooh eyeliner intrigue!

  • Claudia

I love the sound of a double ended eyeliner but that price! Oh my!!

Ouch, that is expensive! Maybe one day but won’t be getting this any time soon.

I have yet to try this but I brought the paul&joe eyeliner the other day and sounds very similar so would be interesting to see a comparison on the two x
