The Drugstore Lipstick Haul

IMG_0083IMG_0081IMG_0078 IMG_0082 Strange things happen to me when I’m in the aisles of Boots. I’m best left alone or if I am with someone then I disappear and pop up at the till point 30 minutes later with a basket-full of stuff in one hand and my Boots Advantage Card in the other. A woman on a mission is probably the best way to describe me and Mark now knows that it’s best to visit Cycle Surgery or take a much needed Anna-free break in a nearby coffee shop. So when left alone during my first drugstore beauty visit in months (moving combined with the school holidays meant that I’d given town a wide berth over the summer season), I went a bit wild and this time round lipsticks were my thang. Sometimes it’s foundations, other times it’s nail polishes, but on this occasion I decided that I needed more lipsticks than there are days of the week, which is a completely reasonable justification *raises eyebrow*. Here are the highlights (oh yes, there’s more!)…

The main reason for my jolly was to collate some items for an upcoming ‘New-in at the Drugstore video’ – coming this Wednesday – so I was on the lookout for things that were fresh and I hadn’t seen before. The first thing that made me swoon were these new Sleek Candy Tint Balms. I love a good glossy, barely-there, no-mirror required, tint of colour and these do exactly that. In fact they remind me a lot of the CHANEL Rouge Coco Shines, though perhaps not as smooth in their application of pigment. I picked up the colours Bon Bon and Marshmallow. The former was a bit of an error due to the lack of testers as it’s a tad shimmery for my tastes, but the latter is beaut. The bright, salmon pink gives a nice juicy look to my lips which makes me wish that it was summer again and I know my Mum will love these, so I’ll be passing on the recommendation.

Upping the ante in the opaqueness department are the L’Oreal La Vie en Rose Colour Riche Lipsticks. They’ve done similar lip colour collections before, remember the red and the nude ones? They create a colour designed to suit each of their ambassadors and they always end up being really good. This time round I went for Naomi’s Delicate Rose and Blake’s Delicate Rose. Now I’m torn as to picking a favourite here; Naomi’s is a pretty pink peach that I’ll probably get more daily wear out of, but Blake’s is a bright, but still wearable, blue-based colour that instantly makes you look like you actually slept last night. I think I’m going to have to call it a draw here. The formula is creamy and comfortable, but those scent-sensitive peeps beware because these do have a bit of a perfumed whiff to them.

Finally, when I first clapped my eyes on the Maybelline Colour Sensational Creamy Mattes, I knew there was a purchase or two (or three), to be made. These do exactly what they say on the tin; though the finish is shine-free, there’s a soft texture to them and they don’t completely dry down or dry out on the lips. Though because of this I’d recommend using a lip liner with them – especially with the darker colours. Rose Rush isn’t really my thing and is a bit pale pink for me, but I’m well chuffed with Craving Coral and Divine Wine. In fact Divine Wine is exactly what I’ve been looking for – a brownish berry that just says ‘HELLO AUTUMN‘. You’ll be seeing a lot of me donning this one. Mark my words…
