It is slowly dawning on me that I may have a bit of a problem when it comes to pencil housed, roll-up eyeshadow products. My stash of them seems to grow on a weekly basis, and the little dish where like to sit no longer holds half of my collection. Houston, we have a problem. If you missed the pencil revolution of the past few years that was kicked off by a certain chubby stick, then let me fill you in. It started with the lips, then gravitated to eyes with all the beauty big-guns beginning to offer up their cream formulations in handy pencil-type presentations. Now I’m not the biggest eyeshadow gal out there, but there’s something about scribbling all over the lid with one of these then blending them out with your finger that just appeals to my lazy makeup side and it’s easy peasy. Without even realising they are the only type of eye colour that I like to slick on at the moment. So here’s a handful, oh and they’re all neutral of course…
Collection Work The Colour Eyeshadow Pencil in Hot Chocolate – £3.19 – from Superdrug. The colour of this one is a good’un – a purple rooted taupe that sits nicely when blended just on the outer corner of the top and bottom lashlines, but unfortunately it’s not a long haul option. A bit of primer helps to eek it out, but one for oily lidded gals to steer clear from.
Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Fuller Fudge* – £17 – from Debenhams. There’s a tussle at the top of my cream stick charts between this one and the By Terry. Shade-wise it’s love; the rusty tones look awesome on pretty much everyone. But the big clumsy nib loses it points. I’m tempted to claw it out and depot for easier finger smudging application.
Jouer Creme Eyeshadow Crayon in Baroque – £19 – from Cult Beauty. Well isn’t this a beaut? A neutral chocolate brown with just the right balance of shimmer, I threw this on pre-evening event last week with not much else and was impressed by its ability to beef up a pretty ‘nothing’ makeup for a fancy occassion. And it stays in place. Bonus.
KIKO Long-Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 7 – £6.90 – KIKO. Hello inner corner highlight. I find this beige-based gold a little too much all over the lid and this stuff seriously brings the sparkle. But paired up with one of my more brown eye tint offerings it works it. Under a tenner, plus it lives up to it’s eight hour claims – I sense more KIKO purchases on the horizon.
By Terry Ombre Blackstar Colour Fix Shadow in Misty Rock – £27.50 – from Space NK. Oh By Terry how I love thee. Opaque, but blendable colour in a formula that does not budge. Like, ever. My only complaint the shades do run a little heavy on the shimmer side of things, but if you can handle the glimmer, scribe away.
Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Bad Bronze – £4.49 – from Boots. The best budget option out there in on my eyes (get it?). A rich reddish brown that adds a bit of something something to a simple look and it’s a longwearer. Smudged into the lashline and blended up and out – perfect.
I can see the title for a revisited post in a few months time already – 50 shades of neutral shadow pencil.
