Priming: Eyes, Lips & Face

IMG_8246

It appears that these days I have a face that just likes to eat makeup for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the AM it feasts on my freshly applied lip product, for lunch it gobbles up foundation and whatever’s left is consumed for dinner. By 6pm I look like I did when I first woke up. There’s a way to fight this though. Primers. The handy beauty step that acts as a glue for the rest of your makeup to keep it looking fresh and uneaten by the end of the day. I’ve found that using the following trio means my face, eye and lip products are still standing come 6pm…

FACEMake Up For Ever HD High Definition Primer – $34 from Sephora. I switch it up between primers I own depending on my current state of complexion and whether I want something that’s going to amp up or down the glow or just help makeup stick around. This falls into the latter category and doesn’t perform anything particularly fancy on its own, but instead just increasing the longevity of whatever I put on top. It’s oil-free and with a watery feel it sinks right in meaning I can slap foundation straight over the top immediately.

EYESNARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base – £19.50 from Selfridges. This is easily one of the best beauty investments I’ve ever made. My eyelids like to turn into small oil-producing pools about 10 minutes after I’ve applied eyeshadow and so primer in that area has always been a must, but nothing – nothing – works as well as this. It goes on white but blends in clear and unlike other eye primers I’ve tried you can’t even feel that it’s there. It might seem like a pricey purchase, but you need the tiniest amount and one year later, it’s still going strong for me.

LIPSMAC Prep + Prime Lip, £13 from Debenhams. I picked this up on recommendation from my bold lip lovin’ pal, Lauren, and man was she right. The transparent formula leaves a layer between your lips and lipstick and gives it something to hold on to while filling in any lines and helping the texture to apply smoother. It does this weird move where it mattes them out while nourishing them at the same time and though this obviously comes into its own with a red over the top, I’ve been using it recently everyday no matter what colour I’m feeling.

Complexion satisfied, makeup is not on the menu today.
