Polishes That Make Hands Look Healthy

Ok, now this may seem like a bit of a bizarre premise for a post, but hear me out on this one. When I spotted the new Models Own ‘Polish for Tans’ Collection, white-based lacquers that are designed flatter faux glowed or sun-kissed skin, it got me thinking that while the collection was a beaut – I couldn’t take my peepers off Lily’s nails when she came over the other day – I must have some bottles in my collection that perform a similar function. Colours that pop and make hands look like they’d be right at home cuddling a Pina Colada between them. Here are five that I found:

Mavala Nail Colour Creme in IvoryΒ BeigeΒ – a good nude can be hard to find, but ladies this is it. A bone-beige with just a tinge of pink to stop things looking too mannequin hand-sy. Plus the formula, as with all Mavala, is a good’un; opaque, thick and and good to go in two coats.

Butter London Nail Lacquer in Cake-Hole – and the award for best nail polish name ever goes to….this one. Name aside, can we just take a moment to absorb the shade of this highlighter pink? This stuff is bright, goes on glossy but dries kinda matte (top coat suggested) and didn’t require too much layering.

Maybelline Forever Strong Gel Nail Colour in Mint for Life – the brush on this comes just how I like them: firm, curved and easy to control (oh er) and I’ve found this white-based mint to be surprisingly flattering on anyone who’s raided through my stash and painted it on. One of my all-time favourite pastels.

Nails Inc Nail Polish in Portobello – who remembers this blast from the past? If coral and orange had a baby then this bottle would be its offspring. I foresee that this will be one that comes out every summer for years to come – what’s not to love about it? I find even when I’ve been seriously slacking in the fake tan department this one still manages to perk things up.

Essie Nail Varnish in Bikini So Teenyanother cute name and another blast from the past. If baby blues are a bit too sickly sweet for you then this periwinkle lilac is the next best thing. I’m guilty of lobbing this on with just one coat while running out the door – and you all know I do love a one coat wonder.

  • Bikini So Teeny works miracles on my fingers, which is odd because its usually some really nice classic nudes that suit me best and make my fingers look nice and healthy.

I have images of the scene in Legally Blonde 1 where Elle complains how ugly the engagement ring looks on the unpolished fingers of the bitchy character – none of those problems here!

  • Emily Golding

I love a good warm nude on my nails it just makes them look so much better and in good condition!

  • Anna Blush

I love all these shades! Recently I’ve been wearing an Essence shade super similar to the Mavala one, love it! x

  • Bikini So Teeny is seriously the most amazing color! Lately it’s been the ONLY thing I’ll wear — it makes my hands look so good!

  • That color from Nails Inc is pretty fab!

  • Charlotte MacDonald-Gaunt

I really like Mavala – the formula is great and it’s good to have tiny bottles so you actually stand a chance of using them up before they dry out :o) Xx

  • So now we know Anna’s all the favorite ones! Love the Essie’s blue , completely sold on this one.

  • what absolutely gorgeous colours!

  • Parisian To Be

Bikini So Teeny looks stunning, but I’m also partial to nudes, so the Mavala one looks amazing, too. My tip for healthy looking nails: slap on the cuticle oil in shedloads.

  • Love this post. I currently am rocking Essie’s Lapiz of Luxury which looks very similar to Bikini So Teeny. I love anything cornflower/pale blue!
I also have major nail envy- yours look in such good shape.

  • The blue Essie colour is gorgeous!! Anna, recently I’ve become a bit obsessed with only buying “3-free” polishes – do you think that’s going a bit OTT or do you aim to avoid things like toluene and formaldehyde as well? And do you know if many drugstore brands are “3 free”? xx

I don’t typically paint my nails, but I do love Butter and Essie

Last night I put on a coral color by Essie and it makes my hands look so tan! Which is pretty cool cause I’m so incredibly pale

  • Haha I love the theme of this post, my friend and I always joke about her love of dead-body colors for manicures. Although I do love me some corpse-handsy nails… πŸ˜‰ Portobello is so lovely and I think Revlon Fearless is another good healthy hands color!
