Pocket Sized Beauty

I know they say that bigger is always better, but somethings are just more pleasing to the eye in miniature. Case in point: makeup. Often frequenting the ‘gift with purchase’ category, accompanying a set with their dinky features or just available in straight-up travel size, I have quite the adoration for the little things and try to stifle back an audible ‘awwww‘ whenever one comes into my possession. Perfect for lobbing in the handbag, oh holiday hey – even popped in your pocket if you’re a tote-free kinda gal here’s the petite picks from my stash. Note: ‘awwww-ing’ mandatory

One wee option for base that fits this criteria is the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance* which is available in all formulas in deluxe travel size from Space NK. It’s always a little difficult to delve in full-size with new complexion products so a taste-sized tester is a welcomed idea – brands take note – there’s a full review of it here. On the subject of primers, I’ve fallen hard for the tiny NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base that arrived as an extra of the NARS And God Created the Woman set. It’s gooooood and something that I never would have picked up on its own – that’s the perk of extra product bolt ons, eh? One place that has this whole miniature thang down is Sephora. The tills are lined with the stuff meaning you end up doubling your purchase amount while in the queue. It happens. A product that was added in such situation was the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12hr Bronzer in Park Ave Princess. Not my favourite bronzer out there but a palm-sized compact that often gets thrown in on my travels.

Probably the cutest of them all and usually part of a GWP is a 5ml tube of Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 01*; my favourite lipgloss I’ve ever slicked on and scaled down to a third of the normal size – what’s there not to love? Gloss without the gloop and a nourishing finish, this is often swimming around in the depths of my handbag. Speaking of lips, the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick is not by description a miniature but was packaged to be a pocket friendly option in slimed-down casing. Available for your possession from Space NK I have the pinked-up red Muse, but Raven and Riviera – I’m coming for you. Not to neglect colour for your lids, the mini Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows that bolt onto their new World Famous Neutrals Palettes* are some of the dinkiest offerings I’ve seen. Annoyingly these shadow tasters are only available as part of the palette bundle but the pint-sized pots are just the right size for someone who wants to test and trial the formula. Now not strictly makeup, but a travel-sized option that deserves a nod are perfume rollerballs. Fresh’s Brown Sugar is my summer jam of sweet, fresh and citrusy notes. Another addition to my ‘on-the-go’ stash.

Cosmetics cuteness complete and ‘awwwing‘ period over – I reached my conclusion a long while ago. Sometimes makeup is just better in miniature, right?
