Parisian Chic

When I found out a trip to Paris was on the cards my checklist for what to pack looked a little bit like this: black skinnies, kitten heels and red lipstick. That’s all the essentials, non? If there’s one beauty culture I’m borderline obsessed with then it has to be that of the French. You girls from over The Channel have got that whole ‘no makeup, makeup’, lived-in look down and I’m down with that. You already know I have a thing for your locks, but your makeup too? I. Love. It. So for my short stay I’m attempting to wedge my way in to the French maquillage way – I’m even wearing a bun and everything. Here’s what crossed the sea with me…

First in the makeup bag went a light coverage ‘I don’t do foundation‘ base – Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser in Bisque, the only product that does that tale any justice. Applied with fingers for once, I’m leaving it at that – no bronzer, blush, highlight or even concealer. I’m embracing yesterday’s 5.30am wakeup-call racoon eyes. Speaking of eyes, there’s two products to pep them up. Lancôme’s Hypnôse Waterproof Mascara – an unusual addition for me but my Telescopic’s on its last legs and this leaves a slightly more natural finish to my lashes. And to add some subtle structure to the face I threw in Hourglass’ Arch Brown Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette, the waxy texture of which helps keep my disobedient brows in order. The final product that came along for the trip was the much fantasised about in my head, red lip. More than a few options popped up in my makeup musings, but I’m currently harbouring some big love for the Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Colour in Calypso*, a pinked-up rouge. Slapped on like your usual lippie it’s ok, but dabbed and pressed into your lips with your finger it’s swoon-worthy. Your lips but brighter, better and a tad bolder.

A four product face? Just when you think I couldn’t cut it down anymore. Vivianna Does errrr….Nothing? But today is all about the lightly stained lip, a trip to the Lover’s Bridge, the impending Pharmacy ransacking and itching that scratch on my head. J’adore Paris – I’ll send you a postcard…
