Nostalgic Purchases

Do you ever get the pang to repurchase an old favourite beauty buy? For no real reason aside from nostalgia? Well that’s exactly what I experienced recently when I found myself wandering around the shop-filled streets of London with a 30-minute slot between meetings. Products from my past that I loved, bought, used and bought again and ones that when I look back on old photos, really cut the mustard if I can say so myself. The feeling came, I shopped, I conquered…

First up, I did a quick drive-by swoop and purchase in MAC. That place always brings back old memories of me being the first customer in on launch-days and being on first name terms with the staff in my local store. Though I don’t visit as often now I still tend to get a little overexcited from time to time. But on this occasion I was good and headed right for the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium – even just typing the name came easy. Who remember this one? I used to go in heavy handed with this on a daily basis and since using up my last swipe over a year ago of what was probably my sixth one, there’s been an MSFN-shaped hole in my heart. Yes, I’m not a powder kinda gal, but there is the odd occasion where I could do with a little touch-up (studio lights are not forgiving), so I’m happy to have this cake-free, low-coverage compact back in my life.

The second purchase came in the form of Guerlain’s Lingerie de Peau Foundation in 02. I’d pip this as the first ever foundation that I truly fell in love with. Its medium to full coverage, natural-looking, slightly dewy finish was well out of my student budget at the time, but I saved up and stuck to square meals of beans on toast nightly instead. Heck, I even had two different shades of the stuff. This time round I picked up the lighter shade that I previously owned, which is actually a tad dark for me right now which really shows how much of the faux glow I used to slap on, but I’m very chuffed to have it back in my life. This brings the grand total of foundations I own to…..gawd I don’t even want to count.

Old base friends repurchased I’m currently resisting the urge to grab a bottle of the perfume I wore for the entirety of my University years, Paco Rabanne Lady Million, and MAC Lipstick in Creme Cup which was so well worn that one night during an overzealous application it melted onto the sticky floor of a nightclub bathroom. Those were the days…
