My Mascara Discoveries: One Find, One Fail

IMG_1751MACBy Terry

I’m still riding the wave of my recent lash lift high. Good ol’ Jamie got to work a week or so ago and injected a bit more curl back into my lashes and I am feeling fluttering and are curler-free again. The last lift lasted a solid six weeks before I had to reincorporate curlers into the mix and then I managed to eke it out for around two weeks before I finally booked back in for a tint and lift. This time round I feel like my lash line is brimming with lashes, mainly because I’m not torturing them once a day with my tug-heavy curling routine and I haven’t even been wearing mascara much (especially not with this melt-inducing L.A weather). Lash lift-wise I am fully onboard with the habit and would highly recommend for those that have elephant-esque downwards pointing lashes, are toying with the idea of lash extensions but can’t deal with the upkeep or just have a special event or holiday coming up and want to feel super feline in the eye area. Miaow.

As I’ve already mentioned, one of the best parts of my lashes having a curl that quite literally takes weeks to drop is that I’ve been able to expand my mascara horizons beyond just waterproof formulas. There have been some kick-ass discoveries and others that haven’t wowed me as much; though I must say that you naturally curled guys and girls are lucky because for the most part literally all mascaras look d’bomb on curvy lashes. Damn you! One that I haven’t had as much luck with is the MAC Upward Lash Mascara in Upward Black. Now this is an interesting one because the brush is an odd little thing. It’s pretty small and short and the bristles are small. Apparently it has a hollow centre to retain the formula and when you load it onto the lashes a shedload of mascara is deposited. I think that’s my main issue with it, in that it’s full-on, pretty wet and just generally quite messy. Great if you like a lot of volume and the brush works well at separating, but I just found it a bit too much and the formula was a tad glossy in that it never really dried down so by the end of the day I resembled the panda emoji.

A formula that has faired much more favourably though is By Terry’s Mascara Terrybly Growth Booster. Now this is just a handy little sample that I was lucky enough to get mitts on, it’s a fab all-rounder mascara. The brush is just your classic fluffy-type and the formula is kinda dry from the get go – I do love me a dry mascara. It gives length, a touch of volume and doesn’t flake or wear away. It also leaves your lashes feeling soft and bendy instead of all crispy. You can build it up too or wear it pretty minimally for more of an everyday helping of mascara. Basically I love it if you can’t already tell. Anyone else tried it? Do you feel all doe-eyed about it too? I might have to treat myself to the full-size…
