How To Grab A Beauty Bargain

Helloooo Boots Advantage Card Points

I don’t quite know how it’s happened, but my current beauty spending is at an all-time low. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for my wardrobe budget. My bad. When it comes to makeup, skincare and haircare though I feel like I have my favourites, the old HG-status stuff that I repurchase over and over again and then it’s only on the odd occasion when something catches my eye as I’m traipsing around Space NK, that I decide to make a splurge. Let’s just say that I was regularly buying out my local boots of their Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo stock. When it comes to purchasing, whether it’s for the first time or the 47th time, there are some tricks of the trade that I like to use to save some pennies and seeing as today is the day that my debut ‘Anti-Haul’ goes live – scroll down to watch that – in the spirit of scrimping and saving I thought I’d share my cost-cutting tips…

Loyalty cards ROCK. You know whenever you buy something from Boots and they ask if you have an Advantage Card and you say no. GET ONE! I don’t have many loyalty cards as I find they all get a bit lost in my wallet and there’s not that many places where I’d get the full use of having one, but the Boots and Space NK schemes are the best when it comes to beauty. The N.Dulge card from Space NK gives you £5 worth of points just for your birthday each year! Plus you can use it as part payment for a purchase, you don’t even need to have the full amount on your points card. Now you do have to have saved the full amount for your purchase with the Boots Advantage Card but they offer 4 points per £1 and do loads of extra deals throughout the year where you can really rack up some serious points. I save them both up and use them for fancy purchases like perfume that otherwise feel a bit sickening to make.

Subscribe & save. This is a new function that I’ve only just realised existed (though I’m sure has been around forever!), but if there are things that you’re picking up on a monthly basis then you can get them on repeat order and save yourself some money. FeelUnique offer 5% off purchases that you repeat on a monthly or every 2, 3 or 4 month basis. For example there’s 5% off the Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo if you select the ‘subscribe’ option. How awesome is that? Totally getting on that train – soz Boots!

Cashback that ain’t a scam. Now I can’t vouch for this one myself, but my old Uni-mate Nick who helps me out with the boring backend stuff on the blog, is so ridiculously into cash-back websites that once you get him started on the topic he’ll ramble away for a good half an hour. He mentioned TopCashback last time he was here – he’s used it for years – and although I can’t quite get my head around how the whole thing works, all the places that I buy beauty stuff online like ASOS, Space NK and FeelUnique,  were all on there and offering between 9-11% cash back on purchases made. Not bad, right? If anyone can shed any light on the ‘confusing to me, but I’m sure simple to everyone else’ cash back thang then please do comment below.

Hi Anna! I use a cash back site myself and find it quite easy to use. You simply go through that site to come to the site where you want to shop and then just go about your shopping as you normally would. My cash back site also has a “button” that you can install in your browser that detects if you are entering a site where you could get cash back, really handy. Of course, there is no such thing as a free lunch. When you shop through a site like this you agree to them registering where and what you shop and then they share that information with the companies that are listed on the site, so you have to decide if that feels ok to you. Personally, I have no problem with it, but I think it’s important to make an informed decision. Have a great Sunday!

  • I use Topcashback and have done for years and it can really build up if you buy lots of things online. I would definitely give it a go 🙂 You just click through their links when shopping to earn the cashback – it’s really easy to get the hang of it x

  • Oooh that cash back thing sounds interesting! I highly recommend getting the Marks and Spencer loyalty card (it’s completely free!). They often offer 20% on beauty to card holders or have special offers on different products/brands. There is also often discounts on food/clothing as well!

  • Oh, I didn’t know about this Subscribe & Save deal, I should have because I have a tendency to run out of all my (FeelUnique) essentials at the same time, every 5 to 6 months! Lovely tips!

I love TopCashback, it’s seriously useful! All you have to do is basically create an account, find the store you are looking for from their list of retailers (when you are all ready to make a purchase), and just click on “Get Cashback”, then complete the transaction, and that’s it! Just make sure you make the order in the same browser tab that TopCashback opens for you. It takes a while to actually get your money back, but once it appears on your account, you can redeem it for a high-street voucher, or just transfer the amount directly to your PayPal.

Also love Boots and SpaceNK loyalty schemes! Definitely recommend getting the Boots app, if you use their offers, you’ll collect a lot more points 🙂

  • I love TopCashback and I’ve received so much money back over the years, definitely worth signing up to! Frankie x

Useful tips, thank you! Cashback websites just work on the same affiliate model you’re probably familiar with. Instead of commission going to a publisher (such as yourself) – it goes to the customer as an incentive to use that brand. Brands will use cashback websites to drive new customers and greater traffic to their websites. Hope that helps!

  • I don’t really get cash back schemes either, but I would be so lost without my boots card

In the US there is for cashback! I’ve used it for YEARS and have gotten around $500 back just for clicking through their website. It’s been great!

  • Great tips! I love finding good ways to save money, but I’ve always been to nervous to try a cash back website.. Thanks for sharing!!

  • I have never used cash-back websites before but they sound too good to be true! I have a student nus card which gives you a discount in most stores ♥

  • I’ve earned back $400 from using! I think it’s just a US thing, but it works just like that TopCashback site you mentioned. It always feels great to save!! xx

I’m Canadian and I also use eBates. Just cashed a $50 chq from them yesterday! Its super simple- just download their app to your computer or phone and fill in your name, address etc and then whenever you shop online just log into eBates and find where you want to order from and it takes you to the site you want to order from! eBates keeps track of your various purchases and sends you a cheque every so ofter. Easy peasy!

  • My SpaceNK card is amazing haha i use it all the time its so good i think i have like £10 on it now?

You should get the Boots app. You can load offers onto your card from the app so that when you use your card you’ll automatically get the offer. You just have to remember that if you have a paper voucher for the same offer you won’t be able to use both, so if your vouchers won’t scan at the checkout it’s because you already have the offer on the app.

  • I never knew space NK had a card!! Thanks Anna!

Stocard app is great – scan all your loyalty cards in and cashier just scans your phone instead of having to rummage through your wallet for the right card

  • Fidelity cards are amazing, I just managed to snap up a Dior foundation and a Bobbi Brown concealer for 36€ in total, using my points and my birthday discount. A great way to treat yourself on a special occasion without spending too much.
Cash back though… I havent managed to figure it out too.

  • I’m the absolute biggest sucker for loyalty cards. It takes me a good 45 seconds to find the right one in my purse haha! Totally worth it for a bit off something high end that I usually wouldn’t buy!

  • jenjen12342

I never order anything without having checked on vouchercodes first! I currently have £12.80 worth of Boots points thanks to their double points, extra points vouchers etc, and am saving it for a treat!

  • My loyalty cards have definitely saved me so much money in the long haul. TK Maxx is another great stop for beauty bargains.

I don’t know if I have a different level of Space NK card to you, but I only get a £5 reward when I’ve spent £100. I’ve never received £5 worth of points just because it is my birthday? 🤔 I’ve definitely made the most of all my other store cards though, and have a fair amount saved on my Advantage Card 👍🏻

  • What shade is that Clinique blush in? So pretty <3

  • Kayley

Love this. The Superdrug card is great as well! I think Quidco is better for cashback it has higher rates for pleases like cult beauty! Xx

  • Love these tips, we shall be using them all in the future, who doesn’t like savings?
