Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation: A Quickie Review

IMG_0584

I promised a more in-depth muse on the Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation back in my Everyday Makeup Bag video, and seeing as I’m sure there are a good amount of you out there that also did an audible whoop when they heard about this launch, I thought I’d dig into it a little more today.

First – the deats. It’s marketed as a medium coverage, hydrating lightweight finish foundation that leaves the skin balanced, soft, and radiant. It’s due for release in the UK in February, for £35 you get 30ml of product and there are 24 shades available (nice one Laura!).

I’ve given it a go a few times now – on bare skin, on freshly moisturised skin, on primed skin – and I feel like I can summarise that it’s just a bit ‘meh‘ for me. Now my skin is pretty normal-ish. I have the odd dry patch around my nose and a greasy bit on my chin but this somehow made all my dry bits look even more flakey and all my oily bits even more shiny. I could feel it sitting on my skin and to touch my cheeks felt sticky. I felt that I should avoid going near anything that was white for fear of smearing my face on it. There wasn’t a tonne of coverage and so it did a nice job of looking pretty skin-like, but on the few occasions that I’ve tested it out I’ve ended up taking it off and whipping something else on.

The redeeming quality here is the shade range, Vanillé is a perfect match for me. The packing is nice and slim for a high-end formula and the pump is nice in that you don’t get a tonne of product at once. So it has a few things going for it, but for me I feel like I’ll be sticking to the good ol’ Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser for now. Some people on Sephora love it though – so it’s one to give a swatch.
