I asked you guys on Twitter if you wanted to see more posts on product launches and events that I go to and I received a resounding ‘yes’, so I have created an ‘Events & Launches’ category for the blog so all the latest goss on that will be there. Last night I attended two events – phew! And the first was a pretty unforgettable soirée hosted by Illamasqua to preview their newest launch ‘Human Fundamentalism’.
The room was decorated in a way that can only be described as ‘utter kooky chaos’; a purple hen draped in rappers gold chains stood on the corner, along with a bmx adorned in flowers and the coolest retro boom box I have ever seen sat overlooking the new collection. Catering provided plenty of sugar (my favourite) – no fancy cocktails here, just cherryade, I couldn’t have been happier. We were also treated to a sneak peek of Illamasqua’s Art Director Alex Box in action and she gave us a very inspiring talk on the collection, let’s just say I came away thinking that teal lipstick was a great idea! Along with an Icelandic vocal performance and an energetic routine from a dance troupe, it’s certainly not an episode of my life that I will be forgetting soon.
‘Human Fundamentalism’ is designed to express an explosion of your alter ego. Illamasqua are not know for their neutral, wearable palettes, but more for their rich pigments and large variety of unique shades and this collection fits that bill. Alex spoke us through how the collection was created to inspire people to become who they are and not who they are told to be. ‘Human Fundamentalism’ turns everything on it’s head – a black eyeliner is now presented as a white, and instead of a red lip being daring Illamasqua tempt you to try teal. Instead of building on a story or an era as Illamasqua have done in the past, this collection is more about bringing it back to the essence of what Illamasqua are about, daring to be different to desiring to express your inner self on the outside.
Despite this collections bold claims, there are actually some pretty neutral colours offered; Alex said that these were to create contours and shading and then to layer colour on top. My top pick of the whole collection has to be the Neutral Palette*, which I was actually gifted in my goodie bag, so I will try and get a review of that up soon. Another great neutral was the Powder Eyeshadow in Vernau which was a peanut coloured brown which looked like it would be good for contouring or as an eyebrow shade. Other stand-out products had to be the Precision Ink in Scribe a bright white eyeliner, god knows how I would use it but it sure looked cool, and the Lipstick in Apocalips the teal shade that I have been banging on about, all the Illasmasqua girls where wearing it and it looked fab, plus I love the name! Not one for everyday wear for me personally, but certainly an interesting colour.
