Goodbye Redness: Three Ways That I Like To Get Rid of The Rouge

IMG_1764IMG_1765YSL

If I ever get hot, I get red. If I ever feel embarrassed, I get red. If I ever splash my face with water/go outside when it’s too cold/too hot/get nervous/breathe, I get red. Basically I spend most of my time trying to cool down my cheeks with the cold backs of spoons and thinking that maybe it just looks like I’m wearing a tonne of blusher? And I’m actually pulling it off? PAH. Over the years I’ve managed to calm it a little, so here are my top three tips…

1. The Old Fashioned Way. You’ve no doubt heard these tips a million times before but when I’m feeling like a tomato I steer clear from anything more than lukewarm water near my face, that includes in the shower. In fact when I’m in the shower I try and keep my face completely out the water, like I used to do when I was two and showers terrified me. I also try to drink a tonne of water. Seriously it’s such a boring tip but whenever I’m topped up with H20 my skin looks miles better – less spotty, less angry and way less dry – it’s well worth the frequent bathroom visits every 30 minutes.

2. Tried & Tested Products. I don’t actually tend to experiment that much with my skincare routine and if I do, I switch up just one thing at a time so I can fairly test whether the newcomer causes any problems. In terms of what I go back to as my tried and tested regime I love the OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel, MV Organics Rose Hydrating Mist, Estée Lauder Revitalising Supreme Eye Cream, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair or the KYPRIS Antioxidant Dew, then an Estée Lauder CC or EE Cream for the day or the KYRPIS 1000 Roses Elixir or MV Organics Rose Plus Booster in the evening. My skin loves all of the above.

3. The Shrek Method. This is the most experimental and easily my most fun tip because it involves turning yourself into a ogreous monster for a split second. The theory that opposing colours on the colour wheel cancel each other out means that green is the perfect companion for red in that it neutralises it down. Fab. Of course makeup-wise this is something you’re going to want to do pre-foundation and recently I’ve been using the YSL Touche Eclat Neutraliser in Green which actually works pretty well. These formulas have come a long way since I first tried them back in the day when I slathered a blob of a 17 (back in the day when it was 17, not SEVENTEEN) green clay-ish looking formula all over my face and ended up looking like I was off to a Halloween party. Anyone else have any other recommendations?
