Getting Back Into Blusher..

If you are a regular reader of this blog you will know that I have a love-hate relationship with blusher. Sometimes I can’t get enough of it, other times I can go a few weeks without even touching the stuff (dramatic I know). After seeing a few unflattering photos of myself sans blusher pop up on the ol’ Facebook I have released that a touch of blusher to the cheeks actually helps to bring some dimension and a bit of colour to my face – especially in flash photography. These unflattering photos have also taught me never to wear MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow without putting some dark liner on my lashlines (hello pinkeye!) – but that is a story for another time. Back to the point, blushers, yes of course I got for the neutral variety – peachy pinks being my favourites and here are my 3 top picks…
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy, Benefit Coralista Blush, MAC Melba Blush & MAC 187 Brush

From the minute I set my eyes on the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy I knew it would be love! It’s much brighter than my other favourites, and it is so pigmented that you need to the lightest dusting of this stuff. It does claim to last 12 hours and I think I can vouch for the fact that it probably lasts longer, by the end of the day it is still hanging in there. More of a peach than a pink, but I bloody love it. I know that it’s near impossible to get in the UK, but if you can pick this up on ebay (which I have seen it stocked on before) then it’s definitely worth it. My second choice has to be one that always manages to weasel it’s way onto my cheeks – I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact my colleague at work throws this on and it looks fabulous on her and it’s Benefits Coralista. This is a blusher that I really dragged my heels on, I just wasn’t sure enough to purchase it for a long time, but when I did I was nicely surprised. Not only does this smell amazing (strange but true) it leaves a nice warm, coral hue to the cheeks – nothing crazy – just that kind of ‘I may have been to the beach and got a wee bit warm’ look. The final one is an obvious choice – MAC Melba, if there is ever a chance to mention a blusher then this is the one that I will rave about. Probably the most subtle out of the 3 this is more of a dirty peach, but looks fab when I can be bothered to do the whole contour/highlight/blush thing. Plus it’s a rumoured favourite of the Kardashians – sold 😉 I apply all my blushers with the MAC 187 brush, I just find that it gives a nice natural finish and allows you to build up a bit of colour. Anymore blush recommendations for me? As long as they’re in the peach family I’m game 😉
Much Love,
Vivianna x

for a slightly lower budget blush I absolutley LOVE Fashionista’s Blush in Butterscotch! Its perfect for those days when your not sure whether to go for blush or bronzer as it just warms your face up without it being obvious your wearing blush, I would put it up there with my Mac Blushes in terms of quality  xx

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

Heya Vivianna, I was put of by blusher long back when I used to pile it on when I was younger, I recently re-discovered it and have learnt how it can be sutler and add a lovely colour to your face (lol) – but I never used to touch it! It seems weird to say that now I’m so into it..I’ve found that surprisingly 17 do some lovely blushers but I’m very tempted to give your Coralista a go!…Love the blog. Hollie xox

    • Thanks for the comment hun! xx

  • Rachel Bell

I really want to get melba, slowly slowly expanding my blusher collection 😀

    • It’s such a lovely blusher 🙂 xx

  • You’ve gotta’ check out Dior’s nr 839 Vintage pink.. It’s a peachy pink with a gorgeous golden sheen (not too much though) and it looks amazinfg on the skin. It’s quite exspensive but so worth I think =) Just check it out and you’ll see =)

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • im definitely the same, sometimes i love blusher, other times i just completely ignore it! i have a MAC blusher, a nice pinky gold hue (god knows the name) and i absolutely love it, but never wear it!

oh the woes of having far too much makeup

  • Nicki _ 96

I have heard so many good things about Melba but idk if i should buy it, I always wear blush so it wouldn’t go to waste. But for £18 its kind of pricey. Well to me it is haha. I might have to splurge on myself one day…

    • Ah well maybe worth trying before you buy 🙂 xx

  • Ooh great blush selections!

Have you tried UNE’s Breezy Cheeks blushes? They’re a great cream to powder finish but I can’t remember if they do a peachy shade 🙂

    • No I haven’t! Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

I love Coralista too. If they ever discontinue it I don’t know what I’ll do!

  • I love coralista. I really want to try Tarte blush
    Carissa xx

    • The Tarte blushers are lovely! xx

  • Nars Deep throat which is more of a pinky/peach!

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • Becca

You should try Benefit Cha Cha tint- looks scary in the pot but is so amazing! Especially in the summer 🙂

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • Kim Parslow

I absolutely love coralista. I wear it every day with out fail. You’re right it’s such a lovely, easy colour. Just gives that little glow, looks nice and natural xx

  • Emily has dimples

I <3 Coralista, so fresh and brightening on the skin! Illamasqua's Powder Blusher in Lover is really flattering and of course- mega pigmented! Xx

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • Mspurplemakeup

Uhh you know I could list 100s!! A super flattering one is MeMeMe in coral. Love it.
I also like Illamasqua Expose Powder Blusher. It’s more of a terracota one but super pretty once on.
And one for my wish list is Illamasqua Lover… will soon be mine!
Have you started the new job? How’s it going?

    • Haha I know you could list hundreds Mercedes 😉 Yes the new job is going fab – thanks for asking 🙂 xx

  • Eyegraffiti

hm, i tend to always use blusher, simply because i look rather flat without it! the leopard blusher looks really good!

    • Yes I’m starting to think the same 🙂 xx

  • Ellysmakeupbag

Im not a blusher fanatic either, for some reason. I like to contour and that’s it. Sometimes some pink on the cheeks and voila. I think you would really like the Korres blusher in orange. It ressembles Benefit coralista but a bit more smoothe and satiny.

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • abbyenglish787

I saw in a haul you bought Jemma Kidd’s cream blush, just wondered what you thought of it? 🙂

    • I like it! I find it best applies with the fingers and gives a nice glow to the cheeks 🙂 xx

  • Charlotte’s Obsessions

I really don’t get the hype with Mac Melba.. Beautiful colour in the pan but I find it so chalky to blend on the cheeks. Actually as I am typing this I have realised i may try it with the 187 brush, although I normally find that brush a little to large for my cheeks but will give it a try as I want to fall in love with it xx

    • Gah – try it with the MAC 187 love it with that brush 🙂 xx

  • Im a big coralista fan also, Dallas from Benefit is beautiful, its a plum but you need to try it on to see how nice it is!

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • Lil_mizz_michelle

    I love this post sweet!

    heres my blog 🙂

  • Missavsmith

I’m the opposite at the minute, not really bothering with Blush and just sticking to contouring but I think I might go back to it for a while 🙂 just which one, hmmm.

  • AllThingsBeautyMakeupshopping

Hi,  I love your blog, after reading it for ages I have decided to setup my own.

I did my first blog post today please check it out!

  • Amy

I find that with woodwinked too! It makes me look so ill when I wear it on my lower lashline… Some days it looks great and others its as if my bothers have been constantly farting on my pillows. x

    • Haha this comment made me laugh! xx

  • ella gauntlett

seriously want to get my hands on some benifit goodies this month, and that blusher is now on my list.. 😉

  • Silvia Quirós

I love blushes, I love them, any of them, I have a huge collection and I never get enough!! thanks for sharing!

    • Blusher obsessive over here 😉 xx

  • I feel the same with Woodwinked, I find it very hard to pull off on it’s on!
I have Coralista but I’m not MAD about it, I love Bella Bamba x

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

Please check out my blog, your mentioned in my latest post!

    • Me too! Thanks for the mention 🙂 xx

  • Sian

The NARS Deep Throat blusher is beautiful. I love Coralista too, but Deep Throat is a little more subtle for everyday.

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • klara_burgess

The Tarte blushes have been in so many peoples 2011 favourites. I really need to investigate this product this year. Unfortunately Tarte is another brand that’s somewhat difficult to find here in Australia (as in you can’t just pop down to the shop and pick it up). Ebay it is then!

    • Such a shame, but worth it from ebay 🙂 xx

  • lauren alice

I would love love love that clay blusher. Might have to clear out the makeup drawers and see if I can make room for it. Coralista is one of my faves too. I have been loving Nars Taj Mahal at the moment. It’s orange (trust me) and you need the smallest amount. Looks lovely when you’re a bit tanned.

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • Nars Gina is lovely 🙂

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • Coralista is one of my favs too, there’s a serious dip in the pan, it will hit it soon! Is Melba LE? xx

    • No Melba is permanent 🙂 xx

  • lucy

possibly just me, but i’ve got GOSH’s electric pink blush (number 37 i think..) and it’s actually creepily similar to Mac’s canteloupe- i have quite a love/hate relationship with blush too:L i also have tarte clay blush in dollface – loveloveloveeee! (it’s more of a pale peach than anything:L) 🙂 xx

    • Oooo thanks for the recommendation! xx

  • Shanajp

Just bought melba yesterday. I never thought it would look good on but it does! Very lovely cheeks. Thanks for blusher picks.

  • I wear coralista almost every day, sometimes with hot mama by the balm put over the top. It suits everyone in my eyes.

    • It does! Such a gorgeous shade xx

  • I cannot live without blusher, it’d be my desert island beauty product! I have about 20 of them! The Balm’s Fratboy you may like. It’s matte but just beautiful for a lift to the face. Although not peachy I love Bobbi Brown Pale Pink and for shimmer try any Cargo ones. Fab!

  • Cristina Sánchez

I love collecting blushes but I rarely use them, unless Sleek’s Suede. I usually go for bronzer, being my favorites NARS Casino and Chanel Soleil de Tan creme bronzer 😉 I have set my sights on Tarte’s Exposed, sooo pretty!

  • Mim

The Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy is gorgeous! I have Melba by MAC, its so fool-proof 😉 xxx

I really want to get MAC melba but I also like MAC style which is another peachy one  – can’t decide between the two!!
