Filming Face

Last week I put down my powder brush, tied round my apron, picked up my smiley spoon (is it wrong to have a favourite spoon? It was housewarming from Suzie) and turned my hands to baking for a new foodie Youtube channel Relish. A flour explosion (or four) may have occurred, my dodgy take at creating pastry ‘twists’ to lay on top of treacle tart now caught on camera and I may have had to film for an afternoon with my top trouser button undone due to OD-ing on my own-made brownies in the break but a lot of laughs were had. Despite enjoying pretending to be a Great British Bake-Off contestant, I couldn’t turn off the innate beauty switch in my brain so my makeup look for the few days was a well thought out pre-planned regime designed to stay-put in an oven-warmed kitchen and look camera ready. Here’s what I rolled out…

Base is key with this whole shebang: if it goes right, you glow under the lights and beam ‘I’m HD ready baby‘, base goes poop and you begin to move into ‘gawd things are getting a little schweaty in here‘ territory. So I stuck with my hardy complexion combo of Hourglass’ Mineral Veil Primer and Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation in 4* which perfects, covers and sticks around like no other duo. The usual Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand under the eyes and over redness finishes that step off and decided against any powder to stop myself looking to ‘set’. Instead I ramped up my cheek makeup and paired NARS Laguna Bronzer haphazardly all over-ish with Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12hr Blush in Tipsy on the cheeks for a bit of colour. No highlighter as I knew over the day my ‘sheen’ (read: oils) would show through. Nice.

For brows I stepped back into my ol’ regime of MAC’s Espresso Eyeshadow through the ends and threw my brow comb in my bag so I could reposition my unruly hairs throughout the day. Eyes were a MAC affair too with All That Glitters Eyeshadow swept all over the lid – a shimmery golden champagne that’s the only eyeshadow I’ve ever hit pan on. I finished them off with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Smog* drawn onto the outer corners, top and bottom, blended out with my fingers for some definition on film and L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara on the lashes of course. For lips I decided against going all Rachel Khoo and went for a low-maintence glossy lip instead with Jouer Tinted Lip Enhancer in Bellini*. A balm/gloss hybrid in one with a hint of peachy tint.

If you fancy seeing my gooey take on Cookies, the chewiest Flapjack of them all and my Grandma’s Marmalade Cake recipe among others you’ll have to wait a few weeks. But in the meantime I’ll leave you with the delightful image of yours truly above after a day-long baking fest. See? My makeup was still somewhat intact. Phew.
