CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Loose Powder Foundation

IMG_8071 IMG_8077 IMG_7991

When CHANEL add something new to their Vitalumière Aqua family (a.k.a the range that homes one of the only foundations that I reckon I will forever go back to), I listen up. We’ve had the original, and then the cream compact formula and now we’re saying hello to the loose powder version. Out on counters officially today, here’s what you need to know.

The CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Loose Powder Foundation claims to be a finely milled powder – microscopic infact – with a liquid feel that blurs imperfections and smooths the skin’s texture. Housed in a chamber enclosed by mesh which makes sure that things don’t get too messy, it also includes the world’s cutest mini kabuki. Pop it on with that and you can work your way up to a medium to full finish, or dust on with something a little less dense and there you have a nice light veil of coverage that just takes the oily-edge of a tinted moisturiser or naked skin. It’s satin-like, but not overly matte and still manages to look fresh. There are five shades available in the UK; right now I’m rocking B20, but in the winter I reckon a B10 will be on the cards.

All sounding rather fab so far? Well, unfortunately there are two pitfalls. Firstly – time. You know me, I like things to be super snappy, ‘could do it with my eyes closed, foot halfway out the door and a slice of toast in hand’ kinda makeup. Anything beauty-wise when it comes to everyday that takes up more than two minutes of my time just isn’t going to happen and though this doesn’t takes ages to apply, to buff/blend/build-up/buff again takes a bit longer than my attention span can hold. Which has lead to me to conclude that due to its light texture and equally light coverage finish it’s the perfect loose powder. So – preferred loose powder of late it is. However the second pitfall puts a bit of a stop to that one. At £55 it’s seriously pricey. That’s not the kind of dollar you want to drop on what, for me, is an ‘additional’ step, even if it does make the complexion look seriously dreamy (see above picture where despite looking like a dazed-out blow-up doll my skin doesn’t look half bad).

So with all of that taken into account, I reckon that this is to be reserved for the shopping lists of powder foundation lovers/CHANEL addicts/holders of a gift card that is burning a hole in their pockets…

  • yea, the price yikes!!

  • I was real excited until I read the price. £55, really?

I’ve always been a bit dubious when it comes to these mineral powder foundations, as I like a good dewy look but this looks gorgeous!

  • Daniella

  • I wish it wasn’t that ecpensive I would be all over it otherwise

  • Gaby Zickar

I would LOVE to try this but none of their foundations are ever light enough for my pale complexion! The struggle is real.

  • This looks stunning on you, but I agree- far too pricey 🙁

  • Which mascara are you wearing here Anna? Your lashes look amazing! LOL at ‘dazed-out blow-up doll’

  • Leanne Marshall

Looks lovely on you Anna, But £55, really! That is super expensive for a loose powder! – Powdered foundations, i stick to Bare Mineral if i have the time to apply!

as always a beautifully written post! xx

  • Your skin looks so stunning here Anna! It seems like £55 was worth it!:)

  • This sounds amazing, interesting that the packaging is pretty much identical to the Tarte Airbrush Powder Foundation.

    CassandraMyee | NZ Beauty Blog

  • Oh, of only I could afford this, I could deal with the time it takes to put on!

It’s very pricey indeed. I’ll stick to my Nars Sheer Glow. Not that that’s cheap or anything but it’s easier to work with x

  • Oh god the price!!! If it was around the £30 mark like a lot of Chanel bases I would be ALL OVER this. But £55 is just too steep for me.

  • Bit gutted about the price tag as this is something I wanted to try.. Might pick up Le Blanc De CHANEL instead 😉

Wow you had me until £55! That’s an insane amount of money for foundation. I personally love loose powder foundations, and this one sounds particularly amazing. Shame about the price tag..

  • I would love to try this product but at £55 i don’t think i can take the plunge 🙁

  • £55 is a lot indeed! However, Chanel is a luxury brand, so I am not really surprised neither. I find the packaging with the net lovely and the finish on the third pic really nice! It makes me thing of the Tarte powder. xo, Alexandra

  • Not much of a loose foundation gal but still, it’s Chanel 🙂 And it does look very good on you. The packaging reminds me of that Tarte Full Coverage foundation with the mesh, it seems to be quite a thing, lately.

  • This sounds so good, I love the Chanel Vitalumiere aqua anyway, I may have to give this a go.

    Jess x

  • Mandy Bajwa

    Looks great, but very pricey!!

  • I’m not a huge fan of powder foundations, but this does look beautiful on the skin. I think I’ll stick to the regular Vitalumiere aqua!

  • I’ve read nothing but great reviews about it so far. But you’re right, the price tag is definitely a con 🙁

  • Your skin does look super flawless with the powder on top, but to be honest your skin always look damn good! A bit pricey but I’ll still be holding out to but the foundation

I really wish I could justify spending this much! Looks beautiful

  • Chantal

That’s very expensive for loose powder. Even if I had the money I don’t think I would buy that, especially as it’s meant to be a powder foundation but it doesn’t perform that well. x

  • I love the original vitalumiere aqua and my dry skin doesn’t bode too well with powders, however this looks so good on you! Your skin looks super flawless

Tilly Enn // A Beauty and Fashion Blog

  • This looks so similar to the Tarte powder foundation that I just can’t justify dropping that kind of money on it. Thanks for the review Anna!

  • The container looks so pretty! And wow it looks great on you too…I haven’t seen any other reviews of this so thanks for this post!

  • ahhh this looks amazing but such a huge splurge

  • Alice

seriously pricey but i love a good powder, and i love the chanel vitalumiere aqua range!

  • cristy

this looks so so good! xx

  • It looks like such a beautiful products, an investment product. You look gorgeous xx

  • It makes your skin look flawless! x

  • Sarah S.

Another pitfall – what if you breathe it? I’ve seen a lot more natural makeup brands advertising that their particles aren’t so tiny that they’ll get all up in your lungs.

  • MyOwnLoves

Somehow Chanel always draws you in…

  • Margery Ho

    Looks gorgeous!!!

  • It looks amazing, I watched Lisa Eldridge’s video and I was SOLD!!

  • I love that pic of you! You look so pretty!

  • Oh wow, that is a steep price tag, but the finish is lovely on you! xo

  • That is so pricey even for a chanel foundation. I do like powder/mineral foundations and i have been loving my laura mercier one, but this Chanel one is really expensive compared with other powder foundations out there. Looks great on you though.

Thank you for reviewing, I hope you have a lovely day! ♥

  • Linda Libra Loca

… looking like a dazed-out blow-up doll… Never knew I could actually laugh out loud at Beauty Blog Posts until I found your blog. You´re hilarious.

  • It sounds amazing! And the packaging reminds me of the tarte foundation..

    Sophia |

  • chubbybadass

it reminds me of the the tarte mineral foundation and it’s little kabuki brush too. methinks both companies are creating similar products. that said i do enjoy the tarte version but i have to admit it is a bit of a pain to keep dotting, blending, and buffing. however i am always amazed by the outcome when i do.

  • Angela Sandez

    that´s gorgeous!!

  • Madison Moore

It looks beautiful! Probably a good thing Chanel don’t go light enough for me, very expensive!

  • Oh wow! That’s pretty. I definitely need to check it out.

    Chanel addicts *raises hand*
Could anyone describe make up products in a dreamier way than you?
I like your honest take on the serious downsides (and holy canoli that is a price tag!). I must try really hard to resist at duty free next time (let’s face it it is never going to happen) xx

  • Wow this sounds so good but it’s very expensive for a powder foundation! xx

  • Hope Richardson

Sounds really lovely, definitely a special purchase though!

  • Belle

You look stunning, Anna! It’s definitely on the pricey side though. x

  • A makeup artist at a CHANEL counter used this on me today. I love how it looks on my skin but I can definitely see how it would be time consuming when I apply it myself….definitely something to consider! Thanks for the great review 🙂

  • Maddy Martin

I am in the market for a loose mineral foundation that isn’t heavy/very light coverage. Do you have any suggestions ?

Please check our my blog, I have always been a fan of yours! 😉

  • rebecca

It looks really similar to the tart one but I guess the finish on this one is more dewy that the tart one

  • You look so beautiful! What a gorgeous photo of you 🙂

  • Henna Majid

I totally agree! I work on lancome, right opposite chanel in my boots store and i’ve been waiting ages for it to launch! When i found out the price i nearly had a heart attack! It really put me off purchasing!

  • sam

UGH i wish we could get it in the US now! this looks gorgeous on you!

  • Kelly

Wow I want this! Can you please post the ingredients of this powder? Thank you 😉

  • I like my makeup quick and easy too! But it does look amazing though 🙂 How does this compare to the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Foundation?

  • I’m definitely a loose powder fan – it really isn’t as much of a hassle as people think. This looks so amazing, I would love to give it a go!

  • seems like a need to add it to my shopping list..:) Opps…

  • This looks EXACTLY like Tarte’s mineral foundation… I’m surprised how I’m noticing literal dupes for exact packaging throughout different companies (for example, Makeup Revolution just came out with a heart blush, exactly like Too Faced’s.) Hmm….

  • Whoa, £55 is pricey! I agree with the user’s comment below mine – it does look exactly like the Tarte’s Mineral Foundation.. but I wouldn’t mind trying it out 🙂

    Angeline xo

  • Reminds me so much of Tarte’s Foundation, it’s a little weird that Chanel came up with a product very similar to one that was already out in the market being quite successful. And with that price..! Definitely only for Chanel junkies, I guess haha.

  • How expensive does a foundation have to be? That’s frankly criminal!

  • Susanne

I brought it back, corps look on my skin not tolerable for 72 Euros!

  • i want! ill have to go pick this up i need a good powder! thank you for this product review! cant wait to check it out!!

  • Whoa, it’s so expensive… It sounds lovely, but I know I would find the same flaws as you so it’ll remain in the shops! Thanks for the review 😉 xx

It looks so good on your skin, though I have to say 5 shades is a little disappointing!

  • This is so pretty! The packaging is similar to the Tarte Airbrush foundation though but I’ll definitely check this out!

  • Anu

Being a fan of Chanel’s face products, I will definitely give it a go. 🙂
