Blue Eyeliner – It’s a Thing…

IMG_9120 IMG_9123

It’s an achievement if I manage a black eyeliner on the upper lash line, let alone a colour, but if I do manage to crack out something with a chromatic quality for lining purpose then it’s going to be blue. In fact I’ve recently had a bit of a love affair with the stuff and after a few occasions of donning it daily I spotted this article on Into The Gloss, which confirmed to be that yes – blue eyeliner is happening right now people…

For me it all started with YSL’s Shocking Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils in 02 Majorelle Blue, released as part of their summer ’15 collection. It’s a classic, felt-tip style set-up but with a bright, almost-turquoise, blue pigment oozing through it. I do find the nib to be a little scratchy and application a little patchy, but it’s the colour that I love. It’s like the colour of the sea that you only ever see on holiday (or on UK shores with the help of an Instagram filter). A cool greeny-blue that doesn’t actually make as much of a statement as you’d first think when it’s hidden behind a wall of mascared lashes. It’s pretty subtle and I enjoy wearing it with minimal slap, as I do whenever I dig a bolder colour.

I keep application simple too, drawing a thin line across the top of the lid and winging out slightly at the ends (this usually takes me about five cotton buds to tidy up). As the formula isn’t waterproof I make sure I use a primer underneath and dust a bit of transparent powder over the lids to minimise the chance of the blue creeping up into the crease, mainly because Mark never alerts me when that happens. So here’s the thing – love the colour, but I’m not the biggest fan of the formula, so I’m all open to your recommendations. I’ve already got a kohl favourite – Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Blue – so it’s a liquid liner that I’m looking for.

A teal take on how to rock summer colour it sure is. What’s your favourite favourite product for a dash of azure?
