Best Bits That I’ve Backed Up

IMG_7775

Recently I’ve become quite the backer-upper. Not so much with high priority items like my laptop which I really should back up or given my recent two-hour long locked-out episode you would have thought we would have cut another set of keys for a neighbour – oh no – I’m talking straight-up beauty here. I’ve just been burnt too many times by HG products that I’ve loved and lost. First the Jemma Kidd Light as Air Foundation and then L’Oreal’s Telescopic Waterproof Mascara who both left forever before I had the chance to fill a drawer full with. Then there’s the OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel which thanks to its chic-looking, but not the most practical packaging conks out before you’ve had time to place another order. So I’m not taking any chances anymore and have backed up the best bits from my beauty stash so I’m never without them (well for a few months or so)…

As I mentioned it already I’ll go with the OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel first. When this pumps out its final blob of cleanser goodness there’s always a ‘noooooo’ that echos around the flat because I my skin just gets so sad without it. Now I’m going to put my hands up here and say that I actually own three bottles of these if we’re counting the one that’s currently in use and good news everyone; it’s now available in store at Space NK. WHOOP. Finally. Stock up peeps.

In the hair department I just picked up two bottles of the Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo, because I’ve been without it for a few weeks now and my hair is getting grease-say. It feels ridiculous to say that I need a £20 shampoo, so I won’t say it’s a need but it’s a very prominent want. Nothing else makes my hair feel as clean as this and for an oily scalped gal that’s what you’re looking for in your follicles. Luckily, I’ve now got enough shampoo for a couple of months before I need to make that eye-watering purchase again. Thank gawd for Boots Advantage Card points.

Finally, when I spotted the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara in stock after it had been sold out for the best part of half a year, I jumped on the opportunity to load up my basket, after all, I’ve been here before with mascara. I went for two and can now bin my last tube which has probably been out of date for the last three months but I’ve been eking it out its use because I love it so much and crossing my fingers I don’t get an eye infection.

I can’t be the only one who’s a bit crazy about beauty back-ups, non? Go on – tell me what you’ve secretly got stashed away.

  • Anna, where do you buy the Fairydrops mascara from? I got it from sasa.com yonks ago and ended up paying a fortune on taxes, so I’ve been living without it for years but it was BRILLIANT. I think that was an Ingrid Nilsen recommendation.

  • I only stockpile cotton pads.. And bioderma. I’m very boring 🙂 I just find that as long as i have supplies to clean my face every night, I can muster something up with whatever I have in my collection when it comes to everything else.

  • Nothing wrong with having some beauty back ups! I just like to keep it in check as it means giving up space that could be used for storing shiny pretty new things that could be better than what I already have.

  • Haha I love how you back up only the important things, like beauty 😉

I always have a backup of things like face wipes, cotton pads… skincare routine would go into melt down without the essentials!

I always have bottles of Givenchy’s foundation stocked up, but I’m on my last bottle and am FREAKING OUT. Also on the makeup front, Lancome Hypnose requires a back up at all times.

  • Yes to backups! I bought two tubes of a primer I knew I would love and now I don’t regret it. I wish I got a backup of the Fairydrops Mascara because it has been out of stock since it went on sale in October!

  • Definitely lover of the back-up beauty! I do have too many foundations to count and after finishing my fave balm cleanser without a new one to replace, my face has been crying out for a new one

I love the Sunday shampoo too but recently read somewhere that clarifying shampoos can mess with your hairs pH levels in the longterm. So I’m back to once a week!

  • I just ran out of my favorite cleanser and I definitely had that “noooo” moment! Maybe I’ll start buying backups of it so I don’t have to worry.

Totally feeling you on the backup situation! I have just ordered a backup for my all-time favorite liquid eyeliner (Stila Stay All Day) since we don’t get Stila in Italy. Wanna try the Oskia cleansing gel SO BAD, it’s on my wishlist!

  • I’m so desperate to try out that Oskia cleansing gel but I can’t fork out so much money. I don’t back up make up for fear that it’ll be a while till I use it but I do back up things like lipbalms (the Burt’s Bees grapefruit one is so hard to find!) and body creams (St. Ives all day, every day).

  • These all sound great! I think the only product I need to have back-ups for is the Aveeno body lotion. Otherwise I’ll swap around cleansers, mascaras, the whole lot.

  • I’ve been going HAM backing up Shiseido cotton — the price just keeps rising every single year!

  • I like to stash up on hand creams. Not any specific ones. I must have at least 4! I hadn’t actually heard of any of the products you talked about, so I must check them out!

  • On a much more budget scale, I stocked up on MUA’s Caramel Nougat lipliner. Forget MAC whirl/soar/whateverKylieJenneriswearing, this is the most amazing nude colour with a moisturising, creamy formula that really stays put. A hidden gem.

      Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo!!!

I use the Sunday shampoo and my hair is coloured blonde 🙂

  • This is such a good idea, when products stop selling it is the worst thing. I have never actually tried the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara but seeing as you’re so in love with it I think I’m going to have to give it a try!

  • I always have at least 2 tubes of dry shampoo stashed away under my sink. Couldn’t function without them!

  • I keep seeing you rave about that mascara and I’m so intrigued. Does anyone know if I can get it in the US?

  • I’m also quite a severe make up hoarder – especially when it comes to shower gel, dry shampoo or deodorant .. I guess it’s due to my inexplicable fear of running out of these products one day 😀

I really want to try that fairydrops mascara! I’m a recent convert to the Oskia Rensissance Cleansing Gel and I didn’t even think about any packaging faux pas until you pointed it out! Hopefully mine won’t conk out anytime soon.

    MACs Gem of Roses lipstick!

  • I do it with Lush product’s but I just ran out everything I bought last year so I bought some bathbombs and bubblebars. What’s out of control is my candle and bodywash collection. I don’t forsee buying any candles until next Summer (southern hemisphere). I’d like to try Oskia, Bumble & Bumble & Fairy Drops Mascara but the Conversion from £ to NZ $ is out of the question. I wish these brands were more widely available down here. Loved this post. Thanks Anna.

  • Now that Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel is making me wanting it even more now!!

L’oreal Elnett hairspray. They’re not sold here in Brazil, so everytime I travel abroad (which is quite often) I always bring at least one. I probably have around 6 or 7 in my bathroom. I’m just so afraid of running out!

  • I really want to try the Oskia Renaissance Cleanser after hearing so much about it from you and Lily! Hahah I am crazy about my HG products too, I wish I had stocked up on Grease Lightening from Lush, which works amazingly for drying out my pimples. Alas! Lush is no longer available in India. One fine day, all the stores just vanished.

  • I love the Bumble & Bumble shampoo too! I’ve never tried the Fairy Drops mascara but I love Majolica Majorca’s Lash Expander mascara and Heroine Make’s Volume & Curl mascara. They are both Japanese mascaras and they do not budge. If I need my mascara to last a long period of time I always use one of these. The Heroine Make mascara remover is also all kinds of amazing and I would highly recommend it if you can get your hands on it 🙂 xo Jess

Essence liquid eyeliner! My favourite for my signature 50’s style flick. It only cost €2 so I usually buy 3 at a time. So cheap, but my favourite eyeliner by far! I wear it everyday!

  • I have a backup of the Mario Badescu rose water spray, Stila Kitten Eyeshadow, and the L’Oreal CC eye concealer.
