Beauty Bookworm

I’ll be the first to admit it; I rarely switch off from beauty-based thoughts. My YouTube sub box is crammed with ammunition, a quick tour of my flat serves as a visual reminder that I never need to buy another bathing-related product ever again and my reading material? Yep, you’ve guessed it – on the whole concerns the beauty world once again. And my latest Amazon order only adds fuel to the (mentioned above) fire…

The books in question are three by Biophysicist and all-round fragrance diehard Luca Turin (and two co-authored by Tania Sanchez, his wife – n’awwww). These were recommended to me by an old colleague aaaages ago and a fair few you guys piped up suggesting these titles too when I mentioned my last beauty read. So I’m now the proud owner of The Secret of Scent – a look into how the worlds of science and perfume blend together, Perfumes: The A-Z Guide – which does exactly what it says on the tin and The Little Book of Perfumes – a countdown of the top 100 perfumes of all time.

Though I’ve yet to get down to a good page flicking sesh with them on first glance they all appear an interesting read, laced with a not-taking-it-too-seriously humour and told in a way that may make you miss your tube stop. Bonus – Turin and Sanchez (unsurprisingly) can describe perfume perfectly, something that I’m completely incapable of. Who knows maybe I’ll learn something and be able to go beyond the standard ‘it’s nice‘ description for my latest fragrance love.

I’ll report back on these. But if the Amazon reviews are anything to go by I’m in for a witty wander through the perfume world. Speaking of Amazon reviews click here…. HAPPY MONDAY.
