Sophy Robson using Leighton Denny Expert: The nail look was based on the tortoiseshell design that was used for the invitations for the show, which was pulled from the pattern of the accessories in the collection. It looks a lot tricker than it is; just three colours and a top coat were used. I started by using a pastel peach, Meet Me in Monaco, for the base layer – blobbed on, ad-hoc in no specific pattern but with some spaces left in between. Then with a striper brush dipped into Brick Road, a bright yellow, I went over the peach, colouring in the centre of the splodges but still leaving some of the base colour showing. Finally a red-based chocolate brown was used, Not Tonight, layered over the top and applied in any gaps still showing. We then used our fingers to lightly press over the design, to blend and smudge out the colour so the pattern didn’t look too precise. A coat of the Crystal Finish Top Coat was applied over the top to add the finishing gloss.
Adam Reed for BaByliss: Today’s hair for HoH is a second day ‘sweat head’ look. Last season was more shiny, more lustrous, but now we’re turning that texture into the morning after the night before. Not dry, just healthy, with a little grease thrown in. We’re creating a loose natural looking movement with the BaByliss Boutique Soft Waves styler by splitting the hair into three layers and taking big sections round the tong. For that lived in vibe we’re brushing though those waves, then right before they step out onto the runway we’re going to apply a bit of gel through the lengths for a touch of faux-grease.
The sweat head look is something I rock most days with my slicked-to-my-scalp barnet, so I was well ahead of the trend for that one, but tortoiseshell nails are a new one for me. Three colours, blobbed on, smudged and glossed over? It sounds easy enough to rip from the runway. I know how I’ll be spending the rest of my evening…
