A Throwback Makeup Tutorial

You’ve been tangoed…

Everyone loves a bit of nostalgia don’t they? I think my favourite topics of conversation are the ‘Yoyo Trend of 1999’, those little sticky aliens that we kept in that stinky goo and were convinced they’d have babies and what polyphonic ringtone everyone spent 4 hours composing thanks to some instructions we found on our dial-up internet (Eve & Alicia Keys’ ‘Gangster Lovin’ in case you were wondering). I feel the same way about beauty trends from back in the day too, hence why there’s a massive grin on my face throughout this whole video.

I’ve seen a couple of these ‘How I Used To Wear My Makeup’ videos crop up in my subscription box and I’ve enjoyed seeing what products used to be top of people’s love lists. Now most seem to focus on the makeup they wore in school, but for me I didn’t actually wear that much makeup in school; just a touch of mascara and an oily rollerball lipgloss. University was where I really found my beauty flow and that love for a heavy base, a shedload of mascara and a nude lip stayed with me through to my early twenties. Luckily for me I have the whole thing documented in the back catalogue of my YouTube channel (can you sense my sarcasm here?), so I thought I’d recreate one of my first tutorials from early 2012.

Bizarrely though, I don’t hate the final look. Tone the blush down (it looked way more intense in daylight let me tell you, Mark said I looked ‘flustered‘), dial back the orange base and it’s still a look that I’d happily wear today. In fact it’s tempting me to crack out my old loves like MAC Stereo Rose and Dior Amber Diamond. Remember those? I still hoard them in my ‘Collectables’ drawer and every now and again I get them out, give them a little squeeze and a swatch and throw on an old Victoria Secret’s makeup tutorial from Tanya Burr for good measure (this one will forever be one of my favourites). But for now let’s all have a laugh and a walk down makeup memory lane with this one…
