White Converse: A Timeless Style Staple

…and Avril Lavigne approves

Converse and I, we have a bit of history. I first begged my parents for a pair back in 2002. I was in the crux of a ‘Skater Girl’ phase fuelled by striped over-the-knee socks and Avril Lavigne. My boyfriend at the time would ask me to help him paint his nails black and we both shared a weekly can of hairspray to style our backcombed bouffants. What a time, eh?

My parents lamented and for one Christmas I received a pair of All Star Hi Pink Canvas Converse. They were complete heaven and I wore them until they turned and odd shade of brown. A couple of years later my mate bought me a pair of All Star Hi Tops in an olive green shade as a Birthday present and again they were worn all through my uni years until I could practically see daylight through the soles. I never repurchased because hey – I was a student who spent any disposable income I had at Space NK – but recently I felt there was a Converse-shaped hole in my wardrobe…

Knowing that Megan and I were heading to Disney (VLOG HERE!) and there was going to be a hell of a lot of walking involved, it seemed like the perfect moment to pick up a pair. I remember them being comfortable (they are) and not taking an age to break in (they don’t) and to be honest the only downside are the laces which mean that you can’t exactly kick them off as you walk through the front door, but that’s just me being lazy.

I purchased the Chuck Taylor All Star Core White Ox Converse and I couldn’t be more chuffed with them. They fit true to size and don’t completely tear up your feet in order to soften them in, which is always my bug bear with shoes. Two days into wearing them and we were clocking up to 22,000 steps a day around the parks and they were still going strong. They’re just a little chicer than your normal sports trainer and I’ve found that they literally go with every outfit that I wear. Since I’ve been back I’ve worn them to the pub, out to run errands; basically anytime I leave the house.

At the moment they’re a bit of an obsession, which is annoying because I have to endure the cold ankles that come with wearing a low-top trainer with slightly cropped jeans in January. FOOL. Long may this continue in the slightly warmer months I hope. For now they’re a nice alternative to seriously sporty trainers or pointy boots. Plus they make me feel 13 again. Sk8er Girl 4LYF.
