The Day To Night Makeup Touch-Up

IMG_2165

You ever have those moments when you need to amp up your makeup from daytime to something a little more for the evening and you really should start from scratch but you just can’t be arsed? Yeah me too. On those occasions there are four things that I use and it quite literally takes me five minutes to smoke up the eyes, even out my base, throw on a lip product and be out the door unless there are multiple outfit changes/‘I have nothing to wear‘ moments involved. Here’s what I’d recommend throwing in your handbag or keeping in your office drawers…

THE SPRAY. This step makes me feel less guilty about not whipping off all my makeup, doing my skincare routine and starting again because it gives the skin a refresh and a bit of extra juice. A spray just livens things up and makes whatever you apply over the top look less caked-on and more dewy. If you just want moisture and some extra slip the CHANEL Hydra Beauty Essence Mist is what I’d go for, but if you want some extra glow and suffer with dry or dehydrated skin you can’t beat the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist.

THE FOUNDATION. My skin loves to eat foundation for breakfast, lunch and dinner so by the latter stages of the day I’m in desperate need of a base re-boot. Instead of reapplying everything, I just tend to go for a bit of foundation, more in the centre of the face and under my eyes to act as a concealer too. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk works really well for this as does the YSL Touche Eclat Foundation. Thanks to the spray step the moisture on the skin means that it blends in easily, especially with a Beautyblender – pack one of those in your bag too.

THE EYESHADOW. I started to become real lazy with eyeshadow again and only don it if I’m filming a video or am venturing out for more of an evening do. So usually I’ve got a tonne of mascara on, but bare lids so I just do a quick dusting of one colour all over the lid attempting not to coat my lashes with colour too. The L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe is a great high-shine taupe (not available in the UK, but MAC Satin Taupe is very similar) or I go for the Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in Pale Barely if I fancy something a bit more golden. Thrown on with a MAC 217. Done.

THE LIPSTICK. I like to throw something on my lips, even if it’s just a nude shade that no one else will even know I’m wearing. I’ve probably bored you to tears with all my current favourites (NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm and Clinique Lip Pop in Melon), so I thought I’d put the spotlight back on an old fave – CHANEL’s Rouge Coco in Adrienne which is a brown-toned nude that has such a Parisian chic vibe about it. I like it tapped into the lips as a barely-there balm. Well, at least I know that it’s there.
