What I’m Currently Reading

In order to assist my New Year’s Resolution of cutting down on screen-time and just general ‘good sleep’ practice I’ve been attempting minimise aimless scrolling through my phone before bed and instead trying to reach for a book. With Snapchat looking so darn alluring I’ve had to beef up my nightstand credentials with some new reads in order to make it the slightly more attractive option. So seeing as it’s Sunday and I’m already looking forward to later on when I can snuggle up under a blanket, wearing two layers of PJ’s and read a book I thought I’d share what I’m currently leafing through come bedtime…

‘Lean In’ by Sheryl Sandberg. I gave into the hype! I know, I know, but it seems that everywhere I turn recently this book keeps cropping up so it’s time to delve in myself and you know when Lily says it’s good, I buy it – she’s always enabling me that one. I’ve yet to really dig in because I’m saving it for a long flight that I have next week *SQUEAL*. Give me a couple of hours on board and I’ll let you know what I think.

‘The Healthy Life’ by Jessica Sepel. I know I mentioned this in my March Favourites video, but this is such a fab read if you’re looking for a good starting point to swot up on healthy eating. The nutrition section is much bigger than I first thought it was and even the recipes which occupy the back of the book are written in a way that makes it an enjoyable read. I’m slowly working my way through it all, but it’s one of those ‘makes sense’ books that has you nodding along when you read it.

‘Thinner, Leaner, Stronger’ by Michael Matthews. This is another one that I’m saving for my travels because man this is a million times more wordier than I expected it to be. I’m really interested in learning more about fitness and more specifically weight-training and my online searches always led me back to this book (which has some insanely good reviews on Amazon BTW). On first look it’s extensive; covering training, diet and all the fundamentals. I have a feeling that if I read this on the plane I’ll be wanting to lunge up and down the aisles after one page. Maybe I should leave it at home…

SELF Magazine. This along with Women’s Health (which my Sister very kindly got me a subscription for at Christmas), are now the only two magazines that I read cover to cover. I literally read them like books, turning down the corner of the page that I’ve read up to, which always makes Mark chuckle. Like Women’s Health there’s a real mix of stuff in there; obviously it’s focused around food, fitness and health, but there’s a bit of beauty and a bit of life-stuff which always makes it an interesting/’motivational kick up the rear’ kinda read. Love those.
