The Weekend Post #47: Ain’t No Party Like a Makeup Party

A long sleepy Sunday stretches ahead. No plans, just me, my PJ’s and The Office boxset await, but being a bit of a makeup maven how could I resist a quick play. I mean – there ain’t no party like a makeup party, right? I find days where you don’t need to leave the house are the best for experimenting with new products, refining techniques and editing my favourite picks to sport for the proceeding week. I’ve already had a wee little play with my stash (the lure of a quick makeup test is enough to get me out of bed at 7am), and despite a mega fail while giving blue eyeshadow a go a few good’uns have stood out…

Ever since it landed on my doorstep I’ve been dying to give the Urban Decay Vice Palette* a whirl. Packed to the brim with dashing brights, taupey neutrals and shimmering sparklers there’s something for everyone in UD’s latest limited edition offering. The boldest, bright blue ‘Chaos’ has been winking at me since it’s arrival and was in fact the culprit of the eyeshadow disaster – blended up to the brows was not a good look on my weary morning face. However drawn on as a liner with lashings of mascara I think this bright choice could work. Other noteable picks include the shades, ‘Nevermind’ a sandy brown, ‘Provocateur’  a shimmering taupe and ‘Jagged’ a khaki gold. Continuing on the bold theme with lips, there are two picks that I’ll be throwing on over the next week when a loud lip occasion arrives – Rimmel’s Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 110 and Poppy King’s Lipstick Queen in Hot Rose Sinner*. Now I originally had the Rimmel shade in 110 in my grips, however it found its way into one of my friend’s makeup bags, but when I saw Lily wearing it the other day and saw how bloomin’ long it lasted I just had to pick a new tube up. After throwing it on again this morning, I’m impressed – an almost neon red that’s ridiculously easy to apply. The other shade I gave ago this dawn is Lipstick Queen’s Hot Rose Sinner. Poppy King has recently added 10 new shades to her lipstick line, each available in a ‘Sinner’, a richly pigmented and opaque formula or ‘Saint’, a sheer glossy texture. Nice idea. Hot Rose Sinner is the perfect bright pink that until now I hadn’t discovered. Less purple than something like MAC’s Impassioned it makes your teeth look super duper white and sticks around like no other. I’m still sporting it’s remnants now even after a swipe of Bioderma.

Makeup party over, it’s time to wash it all off, perhaps indulge in a ‘Triple Threat Facial‘ and snuggle back under the covers for a nap. All this partying wears me out. Shhhhhh don’t tell….
