The Weekend Post #22: The Basket Revisited

I’ve spoken about my beauty basket before. I’m always trying out new hair and body products so the basket is my way of keeping track of what things I’m using and loving at that moment; as things get used up I swap in new products from my stocks and if something is not up to scratch then out it goes and in comes another product to save the day. So it’s safe to say that a product has wheedled its way into the basket then its probably doing a good job. In the past weeks the basket has had an almost 100% overhaul so here are what products I’m slathering on my body and hair at the moment!

With Summer round the corner, I’m on moisturisation overdrive! I’m pretty good with this step in my beauty regime anyway, but I have been known to moisturise twice a day in the warmer weather. For all over my body the Kiehls Creme de Corps* is my favourite; it’s non-fragranced, no-fuss and isn’t too greasy. I put this on before bed and wake up in the morning feeling nice and silky smooth. For my thighs and derrière I’ve been giving the L’Occitane Almond Beautiful Shape Gel* a go which is supposed to help with cellulite. Now I’ll be the first to admit there are a few dimples occurring on my behind, but as with any product I’ve used claiming to help with this, I’m pretty dubious. It does smell nice though and gives a tingling sensation when used which is rather entertaining and means you can’t sit down for about 20 minutes! I’ll let you know how it goes…

Tanning products feature heavily in the basket of course. I’m always going be a big fan of the Xen Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe, for me it gives the most natural, yet dark colour and lasts the longest amount of time. But I recently purchased the St Tropez Bronzing Spray, purely for the purpose of tanning the backs of my hands! Madness I know. But I’ve actually enjoyed using this as a bit of a ‘topper upper’ over the Xen Tan every few nights as it dries so quickly and is very easy to use although I do not care at all for the over perfumed scent. Another faux tanner I’m giving a go is the Estée Laduer Bronze Goddess Self-Tan Spray* – the jury is still out on this one. Although it did give my legs a nice colour, it sprays on clear which is always a little risky for me so it’s one I’ve got to keep experimenting with.

Recently I’ve had a hair product overhaul, and have really got into Bumble and Bumble stuff. I’ll describe my routine briefly here but a more in-depth haircare routine video will be up soon. The Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo and Let It Shine Conditioner* are my two go-to washing products. I have to say the Sunday Shampoo gets top marks from me, it cleans my hair so well that I only need to wash it now twice a week and both times I use this, seriously amazing stuff! If I fancy giving it a nourishing treatment then the Bumble and Bumble Deeep Mask works wonders and I make sure I use a squirt of the Moroccan Oil* each time I wash it. When it comes to styling I think I may have found the ultimate lazy hair, beach babe, voluminising duo in the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray and the Oribe Dry Texturising Spray. Both extremely pricey products but well worth it in my opinion. My hair has never looked so big, yet non-plussed. I think this combination of hair products could be here to say for a while.

Right, so that’s it for another weekend post! I hope you’ve all been enjoying the sun today! What hair and body products are you loving at the moment? I’m really tempted to try some faux tan from Vita Liberata, has anyone tried it? I’m intrigued!

I’ve been using moroccan oil from Boots on my hair since you mentioned it, and I have to say my hair has never felt so healthily and happy, if hair can be happy?! So, thank you!

I just started up a blog, so have a look if you’d like. I’m currently doing a little topshop voucher giveaway to get going 🙂

I am dying to try the Bumble and Bumble shampoo. Everything you recommend, I end up wanting to buy!

    Zoe xx

  • Anna, I want everything in your basket! I keep going on the Bumble & Bumble website, and backing out at the last minute.. Though I may have to take the plunge soon. Especially the Sunday shampoo as I suffer from greasy roots, and dry ends! Do you use it with conditioner or just Moroccan Oil? Just because my hairs gets quite dry! Hope you’re enjoying the sun!

Hi! I love your blog! check out mine!

  • amelia liana

I’ve been using the Vita Liberata and so far its been a week and no streaks! I live for the Oribe dry texturizing spray too! Its the best!

  • want to try everything in your basket! xoxo

  • I love the idea of a beauty basket! I think I’ll have to give it a go. I’m really trying hard to use up some products and I think this is a good way to give some products a good look.

    Kindness is the best accessory,

Love these products. I’ve found a love for B&B too! Vita liberata is no xen tan, I found that its ok but not as nice colour, fades quicker and streaks easily on feet and knees! X

Sounds like a biazrre question, but is The Sunday Shampoo clear, as in not creamy? I can only use clear shampoos (eg. pantene ice shine!) – and it sounds good!

I am a dedicated Xen Tan (Dark lotion) user and have been for pretty much the last 2-3 years. However after hearing that the new Vita Liberata tan lasts up to 3 weeks ! I had to give it a go! I got it from Boots on a introductory offer and dashed home to try it…..It was easy to apply and only had a really faint ‘biscuity’ smell so I was really impressed however after 2 applications as it advises in the instructions; it was much paler than the gorgeous Xen Tan shade and definitely gives you a slightly orange undertone. It also seemed very drying which I know can be a problem with mousse tan. Sadly after just 6 days it was no where to be seen ( it did fade evenly which is a plus) I just don’t think anything lives up to Xen Tan, once you have used it once its hard to beat!

  • I really want to try out the Xen Tan!! and try some Bumble and Bumble products!! God this blog post has actually made me want so many of your products! because I really want to buy some Moroccan Oil too but I think it’s quite expensive!! I have a basket too! but I have two and they are jammed full!

Just a warning, but after a while of using Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray it’s really dried out my scalp 🙁 i love it but i’m guna stop using it for a while and see if it gets better! May not happen but just thought i’d let you know 🙂

  • I really want to try bumble and bumble I’ve heard a lot of good things xxx

  • Jpoppy

How long on average does your big tube of Xen tan last? I really want to invest! Im so pale xo

  • Clay Butterfleyes

The Sunday shampoo sounds the bomb ! I want it ! xx

  • Krista Seabrook

I would love to hear more about your tanning routine…especially how you get the tan on evenly and all over..I’ve avoided fake tan because I’ve never figured out the logistics of reaching my back 🙂

That’s an excellent idea with the basket. I usually end up with a mess of bottles on my bedside. Usually looks rather chaotic til I tidy them away… but then they don’t get used!

I’ve heard good things about the Vita Liberata Phenomenon self tan. Sarah from I Heart Cosmetics rates it highly.
