The Beauty Bag: July

“It’s getting hot in herre, so get some colour on” – I’m sure that’s how that Nelly song went right? I joke, I joke. I still know all the words to that tune (yes, tune), 11 years post its release – yep even all the rappy bits too. But in the spirit of July’s Beauty Bag lets just go with the revised hook cause in the UK we’re finally starting to experience a season that slightly resembles summer and having exhausted all bronzey, highlighted, glowy options in my makeup arsenal I’m vowing to add a splash of shading from the other end of the spectrum this month; pinks, oranges, blues, greens. You might want to be sitting down for this one…

FACE: For cheek colour, when you want to get your pigment on there’s not a more colour-punching choice than Illamasqua out there. You want something a little crazy? They’ve got your back. Not the wildest offering I’ve seen from them, but perhaps the prettiest is their Blush Duo in Lover and Hussy* – a straight up peach presented next to a rosy poesy pink. I’m predicting Lover, the orangey block, to be my cheek jam of July.

EYES: Still classing myself a semi-shadow noob who can just about pass off a neutral eye without it looking too much like I’ve punched myself in the socket, I’m sticking to pencils when it comes to colour. And given my greeny peepers I’ve settled on blue toned sticks as my definer of choice. Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Bright Blue for a budget scriber and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in LSD* for something a little darker and smudgier for after hours. All paired with a hell’a load of mascara. Done.

LIPS: Polishes aside if I’m ever going to inject some colour into my rotation any time of the year it’s always the lips, so my selection to pick from for this category was pretty hefty. But two rose to the top of the pack: Lipstick Queen’s Endless Summer Lipstick in Perfect Wave, a sheer wash teeth-whitening, complexion-brightening pink as raved about in full here and Sleek’s True Colour Lipstick in Papaya Punch which I’m dubbing the looks ah-mazing on anyone shade.

NAILS: Two tip shades that compliment the Illamasqua Blush Duo to the tone are Topshop’s Nail Polish in Stage Dive (an easier to grab dupe of Essie’s Fear and Desire) and Rimmel’s Salon Pro Polish in Cocktail Passion. Both give a brighter than bright highlighter appearance with two layers and here’s a thought: Stage Dive on the toes, Cocktail Passion on your fingertips – love it.

Into the Beauty Bag these zesty options go. Dig out your shades girl as things just got a whole lot more colourful round these parts.
