Hourglass Girl: My New Lip Love

…and they’re all nude (QUELLE SURPRISE)

I’ve recently got back into the groove with lipsticks. At heart, I’m a balm girl and I’m not sure anything will ever surpass the By Terry Baume de Rose or the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors when it comes to ease of use, but nude lip colours that you don’t really even need a mirror to apply, I can get on board with. Matte liquid lipsticks have had their moment with me and now I’m in the market for something juicer, something that doesn’t make my lips feel as dry as a cat’s behind and something that I can slip in my handbag and know that if I don’t have time to reapply it during the day then it’s not the end of the world. Enter the new Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylos

I mean just look at them, right? Not only are they pretty dreamy to look at, but everything about them is on-point too; I can only think of one complaint. There are 20 shades in total and there’s a bit of everything from deep berry purples, to orange reds and of course my cosmetics comfort blanket – nudes. Hourglass interestingly refer to them as ‘moisturising coloured lip balms‘ – which kind of explains why I like them so much, but I’d say that they’re so much more than that. They’re creamy and pigmented and actually hang around on the lips for a fair amount of time for something that feels so comfortable. Don’t expect a sheer swipe of tint, expect a soft layer of colour that’s neither matte nor glossy.

Speaking of colour, there have been four that have caught my eye in particular, which is actually quite a lot for me when it comes to a launch of this size. Futurist is my favourite, probably because it has a CHANEL Rouge Coco Lipstick in Adrienne vibe about it, but with a touch more pink. Activist is about as pink as I like to go these days and is a nice wearable, dusty-tone. Peacemaker is similar to Futurist, but with a touch more brown and then there’s Dreamer which is a peachy-pink lover’s dream. The latter isn’t as neon as some of my past loves in that category, so it’s a slightly more natural take on the colour family that I just don’t think I’ll ever tire of.

The only con I can think of here is the stylo-format. On the one hand I love it because the slightly pointed tip makes application easy and the packaging is slim and compact for its inevitable handbag-home. But it blunts easily with use and soon turns into a nub that would make the deeper colours in the range a tad tougher to apply. Oh and the price is pretty steep too – £26 a pop. It’s definitely worth having a swatch party if you can, but if you’re a lazy lip colour lover like me, you can’t go wrong with Futurist.

  • Ok can we just take a moment and think about how lust worthy these stylos are!! I’ve tried the hourglass liquid lipsticks which i once loved but find so hard to wear, they’re stand lipstick is an absolute dream so now need to get my hands on one of these! Futurist looks right up my street 🙂 Laura x

  • These look beautiful & sound & lovely! I have a nude lipstick safety blanket haha xo

    Love, Catherine

  • I prefer really intensely pigmented lipsticks, so this is probably not my preferred lipstick. And for that price… I think I’ll pass.

  • Looks like such beautiful colors!

  • I did think of the ‘slightly pointed tip’ as a con as well, it just very easily becomes messy, yet, overall, the formula and shade selection sound very dreamy and I will definitely check Peacemaker out, I love a little bit of brown undertones…

  • These seem so lovely, I love lipstick that will moisturize as well as give gorgeous colour.

Ever since you’ve started talking about these I’ve been saying I need to head to Sephora to try some on. Lovely shades….and I can always justify more lip products…ha ha.

  • Fionna

For these kind of posts I’d love it if you included labeled swatches of some sort! It would be nice to see the color comparisons side by side. Keep up the great work! 🙂

  • katy

I was drawn to these because of the colour range and the packaging but I’ve been really disappointed with the longevity (or lack of). I feel like I have a few sips of water and the lipstick is pretty much gone and i’m left with a strange outline. I love the blushes but won’t be getting another Stylo. xxx

  • I am really keen to try these! They have such gorgeous shades 😀

  • These look so beautiful and I love the initiative behind them!

  • Good point about the point wearing down! That’s definitely a bummer and a big con, but man do these look so gorgeously creamy!

  • These look wonderfully creamy!
