An Ode to the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils (again)

You ready for the 152nd mention of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils on VDM? Well strap up and sit tight because it’s happening. Just when you thought I’d said all there is to say on the matte-r – think again – for two new shades have been added to the group and they’re worth shouting about, surprise surprise. There’s no change in formula; they’re still the long-lasting, scribe-on, matte but not prune-pout inducing pencils we’ve all come to love, but the shades? Well they’re a little different to my usual picks: less red, more pink, lets talk.

The more ‘standard Anna’ shade from the two is Dragon Girl. I guess it fits into the red category but has a little fuchsia-ness and a pink tone to it that comes out when written onto the lips. D.G is one of those ‘pair with a simple eye and be done’ colours (my favourite) that I particularly find useful for colouring-up a monochrome outfit (a.k.a my everyday uniform). A good pick for those who fancy something a tad less in yer face than my two favourites: Red Square and Cruella.

Now for the wild card – Damned. When I picked this up in Space NK I thought I was onto a Rimmel Kate Moss 107-type shade, but I was wrong. It’s lighter than I imagined, less plum, more purple and a nice accompaniment to my green peepers if I do say so myself. There’s a mauvey undertone which actually makes it pretty wearable and I can’t help but think it’s a colour that would look cracking on Lily Pebbles. LP you listening?

Cruella and Red Square are still top of the class but the two newbies are a welcome addition to the clan. Anymore recommendations? Mention No.153 coming right up…
