Tom Ford’s Summer Sunset Sheen

Tom Ford does neutrals for his summer beauty collection. Need I say any more? Usually one to channel a more ’80’s vibe with flashes of colour, bold pouts and metallic finishes, for the first time since its release TF are leaning towards a more natural palettes of golds, bronzes and taupes all flecked with a sunset-esque sheen for their summer 2013 offering and I’ve fallen for it hard. The emphasis is on this ‘dusk glow’, with a rosy tone to it, sort of like you’ve been warmed up after a day in the sun. And there’s a heavy shimmer running through the collection too, difficult to pin point exactly whether it’s gold or silver but it’s there and the face, cheek, eye and lip offerings when applied bounce light from all the right places. It’s luxe. It’s neutral. I love it.

After playing with it all, and getting my serious swatch-on there are three products that have barged their way to the front to be considered for best in show. First up, the Illuminating Cheek Colour in Bronzed Amber*; a russet cream roll-up that requires just a swipe and smudge across the cheeks to stripe on just the right amount of warmth and sheen. For lids, there are two shades of the Cream Colour for Eyes on offer, but Pink Haze* is the stand-out and so far the bestseller of the two. The pictures don’t do it justice, but blended with the fingertips it washes on a pigmented high-shine glow of rosy taupe – green eyed gals this one’s for us. I do find it to crease-up a little during the day on my ridiculously overly oily peepers sans primer, but it’s nothing that a quick coat of the NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base underneath can’t handle. For lips this summer there’s just one single release, a dolled-up version of their Lip Lacquer in Pink Lust*. It follows the anti-gloss trend of being moisturising, creamy, non-gloopy etc etc but has a baby pink softness to it. On first swatch the word ‘frosty’ came to mind, but applied on the lips the sparkle makes you’re lips look fuller and sort of glam. Never just a gloss by a swatch and all that.

The rest of the makeup menu reads a little like this. Jouer’s Luminising Moisture Tint in Pearl to lay a dewy base for the TF products to work with, finished off with some Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Sand under the eyes. Lashes were lacquered with L’Oreal’s Telescopic Waterproof Mascara and for brows I added definition and hold with Hourglass’ Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Medium Brown. Simples.

If you’re ready to drool and are feeling a little flush in pocket head to counter or House of Fraser where the Tom Ford summer drop is ready for your perusal now. Glowy golds and sunset shimmers from the rulers of the luxe beauty world – does makeup get any dreamier than this? *sits down, fans self, breathes*
