The Weekend Post #8: The ‘New’ Makeup Collection

It’s been a while since I’ve done ‘The Weekend Post’, but I quite like the routine of there being something consistent on my blog, so I’m going to try to resurrect it. Right, now I have a confession to make. When I first got into this whole beauty blogging thing, I was pretty obsessed with watching ‘Makeup Collection’ videos. I would swoon over someone’s collection of every single shade of lipgloss MAC has ever made, and mentally make note of the ebay seller everyone get’s those nail polish racks from as one day I planned on having 500 polishes. I made lists of things to buy, and perhaps made some purchases that weren’t exactly necessary. Although I have always been quite good at outing the crap in my collection, and passing on cosmetics I never use to friends and family and having the odd blog sale here and there, it’s only been in the last few weeks that I have really decided to knuckle down and streamline.

I have to say that from what I have seen on Twitter and chatting with other bloggers, cutting your makeup stocks down, seems to be the new ‘Makeup Collection’! So over this weekend, something pretty momentous happened. I had a reet-good clear out sesh and have now condensed every single piece of makeup I own to fit in one drawer. Yes, bar the little bag of ‘touch-up’ makeup that I leave on my desk at work, this is it! And the drawer ain’t even that big! To cut it down, I tried to stick to a simple rule – if I hadn’t worn it in the last 6 months, then out it went. There were some things that I love, but never used (quite a few MAC MSF’s fitted into that category actually), and instead of them clogging up space, it was time to bid farewell. It’s really nice to now look into my drawer and actually be able to say that I use everything. It’s now not a makeup collection, but a drawer of my everyday makeup. I will try and pop up a video showing you what made the cut soon 🙂
