The Weekend Post #46: Candles, Candles, Candles

The cold front comes, the candles come out. And there’s a bloomin’ lot of them. Last year I burnt through numerous Yankee Candle Christmas Cookie offerings, but this year I’m stepping it up. Spicy scents, bouquet-like aromas and faintly floral fragrances fill the halls of my flat and make it smell rather scrummy if I say so myself. This weekend I’ve been surrounding myself in a shrine-like fashion with my favourites; here’s the run-down…

When this hunk of a candle landed on my desk from The White Company* (far left), I sat for the rest of the day with it un-lit on my lap taking in it’s Christmassy whiffs. It’s in the scent Winter and without even lighting the thing I could smell it’s cinnamon, clove and orange notes. It’s a 3-wick bad-boy and burns down leaving the outside intact – clever – but best of all it’s crammed with orange slices and red berries that are held in the wax making it a seasonal choice to have on the windowsill. Pretty. A candle run-down, couldn’t be a candle run-down without a mention from Neom, could it? I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on their Travel Candle Gift Set*, which I’m pretty sure will pop up in a Christmas gift guide somewhere (I’m warning you, I’ve bought a special jumper for the occasion). The set contains four mini’s of their best selling candle scents and I for one have already had my two favourites Invigorate and Harmonise on the go. Neom are a pricey pick, but I do find them to last an age and as they’re formulated without any nasties they don’t throw black soot all around the sides – clean scents, clean sides = happy Anna. A year-round favourite, nestled in the back is Baies by Diptyque. If I handed out awards for candles I’d most like to have on my bedside table then Diptyque would have gold star stickers slapped all over it. My all-time favourite scent from them, Figuier has just burnt out (but I’m thinking of resurrecting it as a cotton pad holder) but Baies is still going strong – and although it’s rosy perfume isn’t exactly the most seasonal of them all I still bloody love it.

A final note, I would just like to point out that no sideboards were burnt or ponytails schinged in the making of this post. Phew.
