The Rucksack Edit

Time to channel your inner Dora The Explorer

I can’t say I’m too fond of the ’90’s style revival that’s in full swing right now. Chokers make my chin look like it’s going into double digit numbers and there’s no chance of me donning my four-stripe shell suit tracksuit bottoms anytime soon. I saw a kid the other day wearing a Kappa top. Who’d have thought it, eh? One thing I can get back on board with though are rucksacks. I resisted for a while as I thought that were a bit too cool for me, but I’ve been swayed and have finally come round to their practical ways.

They make great travel companions for the fact that you can lob an absolute shedload of stuff in them, usually in a pretty organised and secure way (hooray for zips!) and they mean you don’t buckle your back in half when you’re carrying your laptop, gym kit, a brick and the kitchen sink around with you. It’s the one bag purchase I’ve made that even my Mum approves of. So today I thought I’d share with you the best of the backpack bunch from some classic black numbers, to something a little more snazzy…

The Classic

In my eyes, you can’t go wrong with a black rucksack. They’re sort of the most inconspicuous of the backpack crew and are definitely the way to head if you’re a bit unsure about the whole thing. My favourite is the Whistles Verity Backpack, that wins simply because it’s basically a Mary Poppins bag. You can fit so much inside and the zips up top and on the pocket on the back mean that it’s a secure option to use when travelling. It hangs to a nice length at the back and the straps are nice and thick, so there’s no digging in. Really, it’s my Mum’s dream rucksack. Christmas present sorted…

The Mini Option

How bloomin’ cute are these? Miniature backpacks are the best option for you if you’re not into lugging along all your worldly possessions. They’re small and perfectly formed, so you can never overstuff them and accidentally be confused for someone hiking in the Peak District for their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Again I think my favourites is a Whistles number; their Mini Verity Backpack in Silver because it’s a little bit different in that it’s a metallic leather, but there’s still the same build quality as the larger size and it just makes you go ‘awwww‘ when you look at it.

Something a Little Different

These don’t really fit into any particular category, but they’re just pieces that made me swoon a little out loud when I saw them online. Some have interesting shapes or fancy fastenings and others can be worn as a handbag slung over the shoulder, as well as strapped on your back. One that has the latter function is the Chloé Faye Medium Leather and Suede Backpack, that also doubles up as a bit of a tote bag. I really like the look of the & Other Stories Back To School Back Pack too, which looks like a satchel hoisted on your back and comes in a gorgeous navy leather. Swit swoo!
