The Perfect Boyfriend Jeans – They Exist

Topshop Lucas Jeans

As I’ve worked through my little capsule wardrobe experiment I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m a jeans and T-shirt girl. It’s cool. I’ve tried to experiment with skirts, dresses and shorts and I feel like unless I’m holiday or it gets really, really warm in the UK (you know that one day a year when everyone gets sunburnt because they ate their lunch on the bench outside work and then the next day we all have to bundle ourselves back up into our winter coats again?) then I’m the happiest and most comfortable wearing some form of jean or leather-look look trouser. Having a uniform practically runs in the family. My Mum owns a button-front cardigan in every colour of the rainbow and my Dad lives in his Haglofs fleece; I was always destined to a lifetime of sweaters and jeans. Why fight it anymore?

Coming to this conclusion has meant that I’ve tried to find some new denim alternatives. I purchased a pair of cropped black dungarees (I KNOW! Link here and more on that another day) and I’d been toying with the idea of getting a new pair of boyfriend fit jeans. I previously had some from Levis and even though I loved them, they no longer fitted and so I passed them along and started to scour for a pair of jeans that had that slightly baggy appearance, but were still pretty flattering – a brief that’s almost impossible to fill in the boyfriend fit world of denim. Most that I tried made me look like I was wearing some kind nappy or were so ripped to shreds that I might as well have just been standing there in my pants.

The compromise I found in the end came in the form of the Topshop Lucas Jeans. Still ripped, but ever so slightly on the knee and still baggy, but not in a way that felt unflattering – they are pretty darn perfect. They are a slightly cropped fit and roll-up at the bottom so they work really nicely with trainers, slip-ons or even ankle boots. The best bit though? THE STRETCH. Oh I love me some stretchy denim. I wore these when I travelled to L.A and even fell asleep on the plane in them, they are truly that comfortable. The one thing I would say is to try on a size down from your usual one. I picked these up in my usual size and because of the stretch I reckon that I could have gone a size down. Maybe not – but it’s worth a try-on I reckon.

Oh gawd. I’ve just spotted that they also do them in blackTime to expand my boyfriend-fit jean collection perhaps?
