The Mascara I Love That’s Easy To Find. Hooray!

These past few months I really haven’t been feeling my eyelashes. In the grand scheme of things it’s no big deal, but as someone who doesn’t wear much stuff on their face day-to-day I lean on the look of a freshly mascaraed lash to make me feel a little more human on my makeup wearing moments. Of course there’s always my back-up tube of Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara to fall back on, though it’s a pain in the wotsit to find so I’ve resisted cracking it open so far. Then there’s an old tube of the long discontinued L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara that was sealed up and winking at me, so I did the deed and though it satisfied my mascara needs for a few weeks, after a while even that couldn’t work a miracle on my meek and thinning lash line. With my Isehan Heroine Make Long & Curl and Volume & Curl Mascaras all but dried up into a thick paste, I was a click away from purchasing LiLash (side note: anyone given it a go? Would you recommend? Despite what I’m about to show you I’m still tempted), when I made a surprisingly good impulse buy at Boots

Say hello to the Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Waterproof Mascara. I spotted this whilst having a little peruse of the Dior counter, which is admittedly is not a section that I pour over often. Something clicked when I saw this mascara. I feel like I’d see a few people raving about it here and there and then when I spotted the word ‘Overcurl‘ printed on the side of the tube I was instantly sold. Overcurl? I’m in. It’s practically my dream to have lashes that curl up so high that they bat open onto my brows. The fact they also did it in a waterproof version – my preferred formula for its curl-holding abilities – meant that approximately 2 seconds later it had made its way into my basket.

So what’s the deal here? Well it’s kind of everything that I love in a mascara. The formula is dry from the get-go meaning that it holds a curl beautifully and sets your lashes in place to the exact position that you crimped them to with your curlers. It doesn’t flake and smudging is minimal (after about 12 hours you might want to take a cotton bud under the eye to get rid of any residue, but it’s not a deal-breaking amount). The brush is big and bushy and slightly spoon-like so it’s easy to grab the lashes on the inner and outer corners. Then it somehow manages to provide lift and volume and length and separation all in equal measures. It’s pretty much perfect.

The only stickler here is the price; at £25 it’s not exactly the cheapest mascara on the block. But hey – at least it’s easy to find for once…
