The Beauty Bag: September

Since starting ‘The Beauty Bag’ feature I’ve covered months worth of beauty-based ground from lovely lippies to complexion perker-uppers and pretty much everything in between, so this time round I’ve decided to do something a little different and instead have tried, tested and tossed out the bad and left in the good of the newest launches to land in September. Let’s call this the ‘What to get excited about Beauty Bag‘; featuring the best of the bunch that you can get your hands on over the coming month. Forget the rest, here’s what’s worth a swatch, pump or flick through when you spot ’em:

Bourjois Blush Exclusif* – £7.99 – out 4th September. They did it with their original cream blush formulation and now they’re doing it again. Same texture. Same finish. But in a universally cheek pinching pink that’s supposed to self-adjust to your complexion. Now I’m not sure about those claims, but on me it blends out to a doll-like pink and I rather like it paired with lashings of mascara and a parred down base.

Idiot’s Guide: Making Natural Beauty Products* – £12.99 – out 2nd September. How good is this? With my recent re-found love for cooking up a storm in the kitchen and an influx of recipe book-centric Amazon orders, this couldn’t have come at a better time. On my list of things to bake make: bath oils, sweet feet lotion, winter-dry facial balm and the all their recommended recipes for masks – you know I love a good mask.

AERIN Kajal Liner in Skyline* – £22.50 – out now on Estée Lauder. You may be a little surprised to see an eyeliner in this line-up, but after having a sneak peak at the latest AERIN drop, this is the star of the show. Inky and smudgy but in a formula that sets once you’ve moved it into the appropriate smoke-level and with an applicator that draws on just the right thickness of line; it’s a good’un for liner pros and noobs alike.

Butter LONDON AW13 Colour Clash Collection* – £12 – out September. Trust Butter LONDON to do something miles outside the box for their AW offering – neons so bright you’ll be wanting to keep your sunnies handy. There’s six new shades in total making their way to counter but my favourites are the punchy pink Cake-Hole, creamy tangerine Silly Billy and the opaque white Cotton Buds, which is sort of the black sheep of the collection but is quite bizarrely my favourite – everyone needs a decent white polish in their stash.

Benefit Hydra-Smooth Lip Colours* – £15 – out September. Finally Benefit jump on the ‘chunky sheer lip balm/stick/colour’ train. Though the packaging reminds me somewhat of a PEZ dispenser and some of the shades are a little sketchy, it’s worth giving Air Kiss and Tutti-Cutie a test. They’re just as you’d expect, but the rectangular nibs make them easy to slick on and give them an edge. Quite literally.

Tom Ford Ombré Eye Colour Trio in Into The Pink* – £50 – out mid-September. Tom Ford. Pretty palettes. Shimmer. One of two limited edition trios released as part of their AW13 range (the other being smokier and blue-ier) Into The Pink pretty much ticks all the boxes; a pink-tinged nude offering that serves a day to night eye look perfectly. Pricey as always, but perhaps one to look in to if you’ve always coveted one of their quads.

Living Proof Satin Hair Serum* – £25 – out September. Aside from the odd dollop of Moroccan Oil being smoothed through my locks they rarely see a smidge of moisture so this was a welcome addition to my lineup. Formulated with no oils or silicones – I’d hand on my heart say it’s the best serum-esque product I’ve come across. No grease, no lankness and no ‘damn I have to wash my hair again‘ tendencies.

So there’s a serving with so much newness it’s completely ok to be salivating right now. What’s grabbing my eye the most? Those Butter LONDON polishes – time to stick two perfectly neon manied fingers up to the usual autumn trends.
