The Beauty Bag: May

With the sun finally deciding to make tentative appearances – opps have I said too much? I’m ridding my beauty bag of all unseasonal choices and dusting off my sunshine accompanier sheeny skin saviours. I’ve got complexion, cheeks, eyes and nails covered with just six glow-giving options being courted into May’s Beauty Bag…

All good ‘lit from within’ looks begin with a solid base. I’ve found the combination of Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer in Radiance and Chantecaille’s Just Skin Anti-Smog Tinted Moisturiser in Glow to be a stellar duo. The fine luster of the primer paired with the dewy finish of Just Skin is a beaut, but you know how I feel about Just Skin already – big love for that stuff. Cheeks are up next for the twinkle treatment and as highlighting is the one thing we all gravitate towards when matte isn’t on the menu I’m adding in two of my multi-tasking favourites. & Other Stories Total Tint Stick in Beige is a stripe-on, blend and you’re done jobbie. Almost with a rose-gold hue to it, I find this works beautifully on the tops of the cheekbones when you wish to ramp up the glow to quite an obvious level. Another less than subtle choice is Estée Lauders Pure Colour Illuminating Powder Gelée in Heat Wave* from their new summer collection. One swipe of this cream/powder hybrid reveals an intense golden sheen that I’m going to sport on my lids – all over or just a dash in the inner corners. I dare you to have a dip in the product if you spot the gelée on counters (yes I just wanted to type gelée again), the texture is rather special.

Speaking of lid space, Giorgio Armani’s Eyes to Kill Silk Eye Shadow in 9* in is a shimmered-up version of MAC All That Glitters that I plan to be occupying my peepers for the coming weeks. Best applied with a ready to dap fingertip, the multi-faceted flecked pressed powder can be pretty mesmerising to look at and coats the eyes with a layer of champagne, peachy goodness. Without boring you with my favourite glow-givers for lips again; Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors, CHANEL Rouge Coco Shines, Laura Mercier Lip Glacésyou’ve heard the names of those be bandied around here many times before, I’m skipping onto nails. Now shimmer in my polish is something I find difficult to get behind but one that lacquers up to a healthy glow finish? That I’m ok with. Enter Clinique’s A Different Nail Enamel in Sweet Tooth*, a sheer pink that leaves the nail bed just looking a little perky and pinkier than before. It even comes complete with my Mum’s nod of approval.

Out with the old and in with the sheen. It’s sexy (oh er), season appropriate and simple to add into your routine for May and in the aforementioned go to my rotation. Grab and glow baby…
