The Beauty Bag from Yours Truly

IMG_9367

I can’t quite believe that we’re on the final Beauty Bag instalment of 2014 – what is all that about? Well, while everyone digs into their chocolate/beauty-filled advent calendars (I controversially went for chocolate this year), I thought I’d have a chat through the current contents of my beauty bag. I’ve also got to say a big thank you to the girls and guy who’ve let me empty their daily makeup routines onto VDM throughout the past year as they truly have been one of my favourite posts to put together – but look out for something a lil‘ different coming in 2015. Before we get too ahead of ourselves though, onto what I’ve been slapping on my face day in day out…

It might seem a little weird to mention a skincare item as a makeup step but the MV Organics Rose Plus Skin Booster is the step that makes my skin juicy and allows whatever I put on top of it to sink effortlessly into a fresh, natural finish. Right now, this is top of my beauty charts for the fact that it smells and feels amazing, with visibly hydrating, not grease producing results. Most days I head straight for concealer after this, just applying the Clarins Instant Concealer in 01 under my eyes and on any areas of redness, but for occasions when I need to look a little more presentable I’ve been reaching for the good ol’ Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk in 4 and setting it with the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder in 51.

Keeping it so natural (read: boring) on the base front, I usually choose to do something semi-fancy with my eyes or lips – never both because I’m just not that wild. For my lids there’s a definite amber-y, brown theme going on and my favourite pick of pigment at the moment is the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Burnished Bronze, which is definitely more rusty toned than the name suggests. It goes on evenly, blends out well but stays put once it’s set. Sometimes over the top, or sans base I pop some of the MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in Amorous Alloy which is like a more parred back version of their colour, Cranberry. This is all finished off with a slick of the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara (obvs) and the Burberry Effortless Eyebrow Definer in Sepia which does the whole big brow thing very quickly and with a more grey-looking, therefore natural, shade than any of the others I own.

For lips we have a few options. I either channel my inner vampire with a colour that Mark says he likes but I can see that inside he’s slightly terrified of or I go for the safe-option nude ‘gloss patted in’ number. My top Mark repelling lipstick of the moment is the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Palais Royal with a bit of MAC Lip Pencil in Vino underneath. It’s a vampy/berry classic and looks rather lovely if I do say so myself with just a coat or three of mascara. Then there’s the MAC Lip Pencil in Beet, which I like to wear on its own and has been showcased in my more recent videos. If I’ve gone kinda heavy on the eye makeup though, then I tend to bring it down a notch on the lips with the Maybelline Colour Elixir in Burnt Caramel. A creamy, pigmented gloss that doesn’t attract hair like a magnet and allows Mark to come within a 10 metre radius of me again.

Finally can we just take a moment to appreciate the Stella McCartney Stella EDT redesign? New bottle, same fragrance and I really like the gold lidded, classic shape. Spritz and go.
