The Base Brush Edit: My Top 5 Faves

IMG_1613

Foundation addiction aside, I do love me a good foundation brush. Always soft, they feel like a mini complexion-boosting massage for your face when you use them. Ta-dah! Ridiculously good looking skin in a few swipes. Here are five of my favourites…

Clinique Buff Brush – £23 – from Clinique. This is my new favourite. Not only is it ridiculously soft (as are all of the rest of my picks too, I don’t let anything scratchy come near my face) it’s just the right firmness to tackle the full spectrum of formulas. The white bristles work to buff in lighter consistencies that don’t need much kneading in, but there’s a denser set of fibres at the bottom which come into play as you press down harder for fuller coverage finishes. Basically it’s a good all rounder.

Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush – £31 – from John Lewis. This brush has one of the smallest surface area of ones that I’ve tried which means that it might not be the quickest brush to work with, but it’s one of the most precise so is great for medium-to-full coverage bases. It tucks in nicely round the nose and under the eyes and it doesn’t suck up too much product so you don’t have to keep pumping it with a never ending supply of foundation.

ZOEVA 104 Buffer Brush – £15 – from BeautyBay. Aside from the Clinique, this is my other favourite right now. It’s a flat-top kabuki – just like the good ol’ days – and it gets the job done, fast. Whether it’s a tinted moisturiser or something a bit more heavy I can literally smoosh it all over my face and blend it out pretty darn well in under a minute. A great one to have in your arsenal for early mornings.

Louise Young LY34 Super Foundation Brush – £24 – from Selfridges. Ahhhh memories. Do you remember this one? Now that I’ve tried a few more makeup brushes I realise that this isn’t the best for getting coverage out of ’em, but it is pretty fab at slapping on tinted moisturisers, again very quickly, if you can’t be bothered with getting your fingers dirty. Basically, it’s a great substitute for your hands.

Look Good Feel Better Angled Contour Brush – £11.99 – from FeelUnique. The cheapest of the bunch and actually the one that I find works really well with high coverage formulas that sometimes look a bit full-on and cakey when I try and use other methods. Basically if I’ve got a foundation that I’m not getting on with, this does something magic to it, in that it sheers it out and ekes as much glow out of it as possible. It’s a good one to have, this one.
