Revlon ColourStay Moisture Stains: The Verdict’s In

IMG_3197 Revlon ColourStay

When I first spotted the Revlon Colourstay Moisture Stains online, they well and truly wet my beauty whistle; sleek packaging, a bright assortment and all with an affordable price tag. A YSL Glossy Stain-like product with an added staining quality, I liked the promise of longevity. So when two shades landed on my doorstep they took approximately two minutes to go from jiffy bag to my lips. I had a feeling straight away, but I’ve persisted and given them a longer and fairer test to make sure and the verdict is in…

I have to say that I wasn’t as bowled over with these as I first expected to be. Aesthetics-wise, they’re on point. The clear square-cut tube and black wand look oh so sophisticated and the actual applicator is a nice shape that’s slightly tapered at the end to get right into the corners of your pout. The shades too I liked. India Intrigue (on the left – apologies for the slightly moody looking photos, I thought I was ‘smi-zing’ – I was wrong), is a little more purple-ly that I go for whereas Barcelona Nights (on the right) is a warm toned pinked that I felt perked things up nicely. But it’s the formula that I struggled with. Things were just a bit streaky. One coat left the colour patchy and though a second evened it out slightly, I could still see areas where the formula hasn’t built up to full force. The layering meant that there was a fair amount of product on my lips and then things started to feel weirdly numb. It’s worth pointing out that I’m an über sensitive soul and this is not the first product in the world to result in a bizarre ‘got to take it off now’ feeling. So alas, the testing period was concluded and a Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain was reached for instead.

If your lips aren’t as wimpy as mine and you’ve got the patience for a touch-up or two then you’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to wait long for these as they should be sprouting up on counters over the next few weeks with a price tag of £7.99. But sensitive gals, you have been warned.
